It was in the NY Post this morning.

thanks man, I guess I would be down. I would hate to take on no sharrington's contract but beggers can't be choosers if we someone pull off a deal without parting with gallo and fields we have to be jumping up for joy IMO

I don't want Harrington back either in a trade, but based on that NY Post article mentioning that Buike and Rautins are being discussed as tossed in makes me think that its so that we take back Harrington.

But, like someone else touched on, would you rather take on the salary of Harrington or loss either Gallo and/or Fields?

I take on the Harrington and see if we can move him for an overpaid big man and/or point guard.

I really don't see DEN giving up Melo for 2 RFA and 1st w/o also dumping salary or getting another nice young piece.

I'm surprise that Walker isn't talked about as an add in. I thought DEN supposedly liked him? Don't get me wrong, I like him as a back up 2/3 myself.

The thing that makes me most concerned about taking on Harrington is the uncertainty of what the cap and cba will look like going forward and out ability to keep our other core players during the duration of his contract.

They've also mentioned another "Allan Houston" rule year...where since the CBA may be more restrictive on the cap, teams can cut 1 player and free themselves the cap burdens (still have to pay his salary though) ... so maybe we take on Al and then cut him under that new rule next year if we cant find a taker for him.

I believe the recent addition of Azub's name/contract is to make the deal more palatable for Minny. We could essentially take back Telfair for Azub and Minny nets an additional 2.4 million.

Harrington can be an extremely useful player if properly managed. And he's making reasonable money. The question is, will D'Antoni ever learn to manage him? Still, if Denver were trading Anthony, and took the trouble to actually sign Harrington, why wouldn't they keep him - since he could realistically fill some of the scoring void left by Anthony's departure? If they didn't want him, they shouldn't have signed him in the first place.

Yes. I hope Denver GM listens to you and keeps Al. That is best for all parties. Al and his reasonable contract should stay in Denver.

We certainly disagree on the amount of "reasonable money".

No one should be attempting to change other people's minds - or demean or discredit others' positions. That's the dynamic that gets boards in trouble.

Ever since I joined RealGM, I have expressed a consistent preference for a conservative, patient franchise building approach. That preference is based on observations gleaned while watching over 40+ years of Knick basketball (not to mention 40+ years of professional team sports).

In my experience, for every GM who successfully catches lightening in a bottle, there's probably three or four who end up burning down their franchise - just like Isiah did through his initial acquisition of a "dream teamer" and "superstar". And yeah, even I would have traded for Marbury at the right price - just not at Phoenix's asking price. All I've been insisting upon is that Anthony (or any other "superstar") be acquired at a price that is commensurate with their real-world, long-term value to this team - and not their value to a previous team literally built around them, or at a inflated price that merely reflects their position as an NBA celebrity.

I do disagree with your position but was in no way trying to demean it. I was trying to bring a little ice breaking humor to the tug of war discussion. My apologies if you took my post in a negative lite Duetta, it was not my intention.

I think that it's human nature to want to change someone's mind or get someone to see things the way you do. Especially if you believe it to be the "right" way. I try to carefully walk that thin line between opinion and what's right or wrong...

I just think that when you put everything into context Duetta you have to get Melo.

I don't think D'antoni would give his blessing on AI:

Harrington, who wanted to re-sign with the Knicks, was let go because the club wanted to sign Amar'e Stoudemire, Raymond Felton and Timofey Mozgov. He still can't grasp why D'Antoni never embraced him despite the fact that he was willing to be a backup.

"The writing was on the wall," said Harrington, who signed a free-agent contract with Denver. "I wasn't his type of player. I know there were some people who didn't want me there, some who did but the coach didn't."

Not an issue. I tend to bring Bernard's game face and intensity to my participation on this board... :D

I don't think the coach has as much say in this as many of you think. If NY is keeping its core while adding a superstar and sticking the other team with players they don't want, you best believe the Knicks will take back Harrington if that's the only way to get it done. It was said the Mike D and Amare didn't see eye to eye and look where we currently stand. We are not going to drive this deal ourselves. As little leverage as Denver has, they still hold 1 card we don't: the superstar.

Look i'm not opposed to bringing back Harrington to play

I'm opposed to bringing back harrington and letting him become a poison, which he will become, once he starts averaging 10minutes a game.

Return to New York Knicks
