Some people clearly don't understand the situation. Let me try to explain.

Over time, several posters have grown to dislike this one person, and they have asked explicitly and on numerous occasions that he leaves them alone. It's a fair ask - because nothing prevents this poster from enjoying the board experience with the people who want to exchange with him (as he's entitled to), and it serves to prevent escalation for the sake of the board at large. Yet, that poster keeps mentioning them, replying to them, shaming them, against their will. Then it's no longer a consensual interaction. That person may justify it in their head because they think they are on a higher moral plane of existence, but the reality is that it is just obsessive behavior. Just because this is supposedly "the commons" doesn't meant we're entitled to harassing people and shaming people.

So when this person comes in here to express outrage and yet again shame these posters and over the term "hive" or "barbs" in a fight thread that was created specifically for chitposting after his complaints (and others'), how is that fair? Especially when you consider this was one of the people whose complaints led to the very creation of this thread by the mods? So if this is the last bastion for chit posting on this board, at least have the decency not to come and ruin it, if your ego can't bear such nasty words like "hive" or "barb". Clearly this place isn't for him, so why come here and destroy it? Not everything is about him.

So yes, the confluence of those two dynamics led to this escalation. Some people are just sick of him and want to be left alone. Since the message isn't heard or respected, people will resort to other ways to create this distance. Including by being nasty, if that's what it takes.

This doesn't come from nowhere.

There is a poster who I asked to stop interacting with me and I don’t interact with them our opinions and personalities don’t mesh well for whatever reason and truth be told I at least respect that poster for being cordial about it and not continuing to try to quote troll and harass me as in the situation you describe that we all must continue to endure

Tbh I'll never understand people complaining about being quoted by someone. Isn't that what the foe list is for? You don't see that posters posts anymore correct? Just use that and move on? If you can't control yourself to not unhide their messages after putting them on the foe list than that's on you imo.

Maybe the feature doesn't work properly since this is an old af website, so maybe someone can correct me if so.

I think 30k is a good cutoff.

Also maybe do posts per year and if someone averages a certain amount per year of their account age.. ban. We can make a positive impact by hopefully giving those people a life that they would evidently need
