Hope it's true means melo staying in NY and heat are dead

We hope. Can Cleveland absorb two near max deals with Kyre and filler moving out?

This is SD just being stubborn (this is pride on his part, but a 100% false assertion). The CBA provision was cited showing, very clearly, that if Riley made verbal promises (or even just a verbal statement implying his intent to the agent) to induce Wade and Bosh to opt out, it would violate the CBA.

No ifs, ands or buts.

"Dwayne, Chris, Lebron. We value you and hope you remain Heat for life. Whether you choose not to exercise your ETO or exercise it and become a free agent, we want you to know we're prepared to do whatever it takes so that you remain a member of our family, individually or as a group.

You think that's illegal?

CBA:

Section 2. No Unauthorized Agreements.

(a) At no time shall there be any agreements or transactions of any kind (whether disclosed or undisclosed to the NBA), express or implied, oral or written, or promises, undertakings, representations, commitments, inducements, assurances of intent, or understandings of any kind (whether disclosed or undisclosed to the NBA), between a player (or any person or entity controlled by, related to, or acting with authority on behalf of, such player) and any Team (or Team Affiliate):

(i) concerning any future Renegotiation, Extension, or other amendment of an existing Player Contract, or entry into a new Player Contract;

-----

(c) A violation of Section 2(a) or 2(b) above may be proven by director circumstantial evidence, including, but not limited to, evidence that a Player Contract or any term or provision thereof cannot rationally be explained in the absence of conduct violative of Section 2(a) or 2(b).

Case closed.

And as a footnote, the "cannot rationally be explained" does provide a kind of "right mind" test. The NBA could simply say that a player coming off Wade's Finals appearance could not rationally be expected to earn $42 million over the next two years, and/or would not seemingly forfeit all or a large share of that money without an assurance.

Could be an enormous mistake for Wade...

but more likely than that, for me, is LeBron staying in Miami.

I don't G-A-F either way - I just want Melo back in New York..

MJ was 29 when Phil arrived......

so how and why does wade opt out without a FIRM handshake from his FRIEND LeBron ?

could LeBron be THAT big a jerk!??!

Still shocked to see them give up that money, especially Wade. Bosh makes sense because he can still get a MAX deal. So Bosh opting out ends up being smart for him. Wade/Bosh could've not opted out and been left under contract for 2 years, WITHOUT Lebron. They had to opt out, if they wanted Lebron to return. He wasn't going to go through another grind out year with the same roster, too much all on him. All that being said, I think Lebron did mastermind this, and is trying to not be the "bad guy".

wade is willing to make sacrifices. Those 2 came to him in Miami, he's been there whole career and will retire there and will try to pile up as many rings as possible. I bet 5-6 rings sounds damn fine to him. He'll end up with respect for staying loyal to the team whole career, for all what he brought them, for the rings and for taking sacrifices and bringing james and bosh there. He'll be for miami, as Pierce would be for Celtics if he ended his career there. When later, you'll look at it all, he'll even end up in better light then briant, cause he didn't make sacrifices and people complained of his attitude. Besides, he's probably down to earth enough that he sees he can't demand 20mil for the way he plays.

Apparently, LeBron will in fact sign back with Cleveland, and Melo is going with him; in a sign & trade deal. Kyrie Irving will be coming back to NY with filler/picks, and Phil will push to either trade for Love by the deadline, or sign him outright in 2015.

Just passing it along...

Man **** Kyrie I want Wiggins Kyrie is the most overrated player in the NBA with Love being a close number 2.

....and be the first Superfriend to blink? No way!? This is a high stakes game of chicken.

But for real, at a certain point I will move on from thinking this is annoying to rooting for them to keep taking longer and longer to decide bc the level of ridiculousness will rise at an exponential level.

As alternatives to losing Melo go, I wouldn't be all that upset with this. Kyrie's not a cornerstone at this point, but he's young, productive, and has a ceiling still. I don't think it's even possible with both our and CLE's cap situations, no?

It would bring me so much joy to watch Riley and Wade rot alone in Miami.
