The reports say 7 players wanted Thibs gone. Thats basically the entire playable roster outside of Jalen and Hart.

So I don't know how that leads to the conclusion that Dolan overrode his FO and forced a firing of a man who just made him tons of money and restored the goodwill and reputation of the franchise.

By all reports this was led by Dolan. Not Leon or random players on the roster.

My uneducated take is this

The talking heads in national media are falling all over themselves about the potential for lolknicks again. Local beat guys seem to get it. Many here were screaming for Thibs' head during the reg season and playoffs. I think many are looking back through rose colored glasses. Thibs is who he is and his weaknesses largely cost us a chance at the chip. Our offense was predictable and easily countered and our defense was erratic.

For the denials on interviews, a closed mouth doesn't get fed. There's no harm in asking. Maybe you get surprised and find out that another coach would be interested.

The idea that they don't have a plan is nonsense. Leon doesn't advertise his plans for the world to analyze. OG, Mikal and KAT trades dropped out of nowhere.

We all knew Thibs didn't have what it takes to get us the gold and that's OK. No sense prolonging the inevitable. It's the off-season, there's no immediate rush to make a hire.

I am as reactive as the next fanatic, but let's get a grip here. I trust Leon to make the right move more than I trust Thibs to change his stripes and play the bench, develop a world beater offense and become a top level in game adjuster

I don't know man. I trust the FO. I wanted Thibs fired but, I didn't expect it. I definitely didn't expect it to happen like this at all.

I don't get the approach of asking to talk to other teams current HCs. Like, really? It's very odd. The only thing I can think of is they had back channel interest from Kidd. Threw the other two names out there to avoid the look of tampering. Might be willing to compensate DAL to get Kidd if possible. That's the only way this makes sense to me.

Whatever they do, their jobs are on the line. This was a bold move and if they mess it up, it won't end well.

Then a year later he was involved in a major sexual scandal and got fired by the Celtics. Why do all of you people expect our President, GM or whoever to bat 1000? It's easy to complain about who we didn't get years after the fact. Leon has been the best President this team has ever seen since God knows when. SMH

Brunson isn't the one paying Thibs and is already under contract

I've seen nothing that has been credibly reported that indicates that this was some wild, unilateral decision, and that this was a collective decision made by ownership, the front office with feedback from the players.

Unless there is evidence otherwise I think the idea that Dolan just barged in and flushed 30m of his money down the toilet because he didn't like Tom is completely false.

Do you watch KFTV? CP is a huge Thibs supporter but he even talked about Thibs being on thin ice going back to the Detroit series. This wasn't some quick decision. What was reported that, many thought if he made the ECF he was safe. But losing in the way we did plus 5-7 players saying their displeased and one player even going as far as saying he won't play for him next year... WHAT DID WE EXPECT TO HAPPEN?? Deuce even immediately voiced his frustration.

And for all the Brunson wanted him, that may be true. But reports also stated that Brunson didn't push back on the idea. 2 of his closest friends (donte and mikal) spoke out about Thibs and his coaching and we just think Brunson didn't have talks with them?

Byt the way, is OG and Mikal the only starters that haven't posted about Thibs??

Why are you crying over criticism? Nobody is perfect, thats obvious, but that’s not his only screw up. There’s a very long list actually (in the recent thread about his grade I listed them all at length)… not sure what Udoka’s scandal has to do with anything tho.

Is CP tapped in with Dolan? Nope. CP is tapped in with Leon and CAA .. He knew about us going to get KAT before and He knew about Thibs firing days before we did. Again, this wasn't some quick decision. It was talked about by certain people with inside knowledge all playoffs. We just weren't paying attention.

Not that I'm a big Michael Kay fan, but yesterday he mentioned the relationship between James Dolan and Miriam Adelson. Adelson is majority owner of the Mavs. She also owns the property The Sphere in Las Vegas is build on. He eluded to Kidd always finding a way out of a situation (e.g. Nets, Bucks...). He seems to think that this is already been decided and they are waiting for the end of the playoffs to announce Kidd. Interesting take...

We're not sure. But most of us believe it was Mikal. They only talked to core players.

Quick summary of BKE so far:

-They knew Thibs was getting fired a day or 2 before it happened. References "shock the world" tweet.

-Kidd was their "top choice" at the time of Thibs firing.

-Nico has not spoken to Kidd about Knicks interest. Went on his own to turn down Knicks.

-They were informed of Udoka, Finch, and Wright being unavailable way before media reported yesterday.

-They still don't think Kidd is dead even though they were denied permission

Yea I heard about that Dolan-Mavs ownership group and their Vegas ties aspect of this too. Wouldn’t doubt this at all.
