They are "beginning the process" now? But I thought they already had like 7 done deals with the Nets.

Such a scenario wasn't in play about a month ago, when a person directly involved in Anthony's decision-making process told CBSSports.com that Melo -- if traded -- would only agree to a contract extension with the Knicks. There have been no indications that Anthony has changed his stance, although that hasn't stopped his suitors from lining up and putting their best offers forward.

LOL... the Knicks won't ever see this jersey... not just this season!

Image
The Knicks shouldn't get too hopeful of
seeing Carmelo Anthony's name and No. 15
on one of their jerseys this season

lol

How is Hamilton and Billups any kind of foundation to build on for the future?

It's times like this that make me so very thankful for Donnie Walsh.

Yeah you're right considering number 15 is retired to Earl Monroe

Gotta love the Knicks "fans" who don't know that 15 is retired...twice (Monroe and McGuire). I wasn't alive for either of them, but even I know that.

I could have sworn that I read he was going to change his number to 9 next season anyway.

The Nets' pitch to Melo:

Bad record, bad city, redheaded stepchild team but we are bringing in an old core of players ... and in two years we'll have a new arena.

Fail.

i know right.. if we're able to land carmelo for cheap and everything works itself out the way we'd like, then the Garden should chant Donnie's name.. What he's been able to do with this franchise has been unbelievable. the crowd should show its appreciation at least once

That's actually a great idea. We should start to spread that chant idea from this board. Pretty awesome idea.

When I say getting paid in full, I'm not just refering to his contract. I'm talking about all the commercials, invitations, sponsorships, endorsements and bling that come with rock star status in New York. That cannot truly be achieved anywhere else and again I'm sure Melo's hearing about how Amare's face is plastered all over billboards, televison and newspapers. I'm certain he talks often with Amare, so he's no fool. Seven years and now he settles for the NUTS (NETS), I don't think so!

I think the blame for this has to fall on Prokorov. He has to be the driving force behind these idiotic moves. Once he made that dumb proclamation that they would win a championship in his first 5 years he basically gave away what his plan was. He is going to do whatever it takes to try to get a superstar, even if that means maxing out his team as a 5 seed. The correct decision for the Nets is to continue doing what they have been doing. Amass draft picks, keep losing, and rebuild through the draft and with youth.

If we aren't getting Melo then I hope he ends up going to NJ for any of these package deals. At least Carmelo isn't taking a contender to the favorite to win the championship. He would be taking a top 5 lotto team to the 7th seed at best.

What wonder is has Denver granted NJ permission to talk to Carmelo. A lot of times they do it so the team can ask the player if he would extend with them.

My thoughts exactly! Maybe they feel that the chemistry that Rip & Chauncey shared will treble with the connection of Chauncey & Melo? This is not an answer for a winning team in the future. Chauncey has 2 years left max, and Rip's career is already starting to decline. Whether or not that has to do with the terrible Detroit team is debatable, but he certainly is not the player he once was.

Melo just has to come out and announce that he will not be signing ANY extensions this year, and will explore his options this summer - and mean it. That's what Lebron said - and did. That's what Melo needs to do. Dude's gotta recognize that Cablevision's money will be waiting for him at the end of the day, one way or another. Dolan has never been cheap.

i dont think nets really going to trade melo..theyre just presuring new york to offer more players since they know that once knicks land melo, they will be contenders for years and we all knew that knicks has the most fans in the nba. so likely his arena would end up empty if that happens

Amar'e says Knicks shouldn't blow up current roster

Post#1099 » by duetta » Sat Jan 8, 2011 1:03 pm

DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

PHOENIX - Amar'e Stoudemire is starting to sound like he doesn't want to see the Knicks blow up their roster, which is what they'd likely have to do in order to acquire Carmelo Anthony.

Saying "we don't really need much," Stoudemire seemed to suggest that he'd be fine if management gave the current roster a chance to prove itself this season.

"Right now, in New York we have a solid team," Stoudemire said Friday. "We don't really need much. We're playing well. We feel like the team we have can be very successful if we keep improving individually and as a team on the defensive end."

Can't say I disagree.

Obviously I think that most fans of this team would like to tweak it with a defensive C and a bona fide backup PG, but this team is cohesive, fun and seems to have great chemistry.

They've also really been a credible team capable of beating anyone since the 3-8 start. 18-6 over a long stretch of ground now -- that's a long period of .750 ball. The Knicks have really stood firm against the better teams lately, and hanging around .500 vs the good teams and smoking the bad teams as well as any team in the league really bodes well for this team. Looks like the Knicks would have a hard time finishing lower than 6th in the horrific east and should draw a team they are very capable of beating in the first round. Gonna be tough to make a move in which the loss of talent in quality and quantity won't offset a great deal of the talent coming in.

Besides, from what we hear about Amar'e talking to Melo every day, this is about the strongest confirmation that he's not going to get antsy about the CBA and sign somewhere just to sign.

I mean 18-6 since this team got settled playing together with big time wins over SAS, Chicago, OKC, NOLA, Denver (I'm sure I'm forgetting some) -- there's not a lot more you can want right now except some depth to ease the minutes on Tango and Cash.
