But define cheap for a guy at his skillset that is realistic.

He's not taking a Vonleh contract. Hell, he's not taking a Mario contract.

What's your theoretical cutoff? I'd rather limit the years, first off.

How much would Nikola Mirotic cost?

Great shooter, horrid defender. I think he's worth the 10 million he just got.
*edit* - 12. 5 million. Seems about right.

I could see a playoff team who had a need ponying up more, but that's what contenders with some cap room do.

That is not in the Randle range. We can get a guy like Lance Thomas for that much if he interests you.

Not sure you read it correctly.

I definitely did not.

I think your estimate is around what he SHOULD get though. I just hope we aren't the stupid team that gives him over $20m per

That would be by most, I'd really aim for less. I do think he'll sign a deal well over 20 a season. Wouldn't want it to be us either, just not a fan of him.

3/60 for Randle
1/15 for Portis
3/20 for Hezonja

This wouldn’t surprise me

Teams were frugal last offseason, but i see a return to spending this offseason.

There's a lot of free agents and a lot of teams with money to spend. The league is wide open, the rules dont favor tanking as much, and next year's free agent crop isnt great. There's incentive for teams to spend. I see a lot of the mid tier free agents like Mirotic, Randle, Bojan getting paid. Sounds like Barnes is getting paid

In a spending frenzy, the play for us is to wait it out rather then join in. There are always bargains at the end. Else we end up with bad signings like Noah, Timmy, etc

Same. And I'm against spending money to spend it as a FA strategy, but he fits.

Also, his ability to play in the post, but also creatively from 3 point line on in fits pretty nicely next to a C like Mitch. And while I'm not saying rookie Mitch is career Mitch, Mitch is going to be more similar to what he was last year, then suddenly turn into Hakeem with a jump shot.
Meaning, Randle compliments what Mitch is now and allows him some time to develop more offensively

Make it the 3 amigos... just think he fits with Mitch. And he's young still.

* IF Knox comes around (especially on defense) - that's a young versatile front court that reminds me of the Grizz with Gasol/Gay/Zach. But potentially much better.

Add in RJ... Lord I'd love to see Frank come around as he could be that unselfish lock down defender who wouldn't be a liability on offense

Hahn

JUNE 29: Sounds like Durant will be taking meetings with those 4 reported teams -- Warriors, Clippers, Nets and Knicks -- via video conference calls. Even though he's staying in Manhattan, literally blocks away from the Garden, it's expected to be a call, not a face-to-face meeting. That could change. He has said all along that he doesn't want to go through any recruiting process so what is it he wants to talk about that he hasn't already discussed? If it's about money, the Warriors reportedly plan to make the full max offer of 5/$221M. The Knicks and other teams can offer a maximum of 4/$164M (will they fully guarantee it?). So to leave Golden State means to leave $57M on the table. However, the actual net difference (when you factor in taxes for CA/NY) is a total of $26 million. So let's assume it won't be about money. It's about where he wants to live and where he wants to play and where he will have the best opportunity to raise his profile and brand to build towards a goal of billionaire status and potential future team ownership. Oh yes, this seems to be more about business than basketball. Stay tuned....

Horrid defender? I haven’t watched him much, but what do the numbers say? How does he match up to Randle defensively?

This business over basketball talk mixed with the whole Achilles injury has me being OK with us not signing him. Just use our cap space wisely please to accumulate assets.

How these analysts keep making s*** up about the Knicks making RJ their savior just so that it fits the little narrative that's in their head.

The Knicks didn't promote that s*** you dumbasses, a reporter asked the question during the introductory press conference. A member of your profession. So don't put that s*** on the Knicks or Knicks fans.

It’s not entitlement... it’s a 40 mil a year commitment to a guy who might never even be 70% of what he was.
