getting that 2023 pick is fine to me. more assets.

I think it’s a clear signal that we’re going to fill a fair amount of the rotation with vets and there’s a desire to see what we have with the young guys on the roster before bringing in too many new young faces. I’m guessing Taj and Bullock are coming back, and Payton might even return if we don’t go after FVV, Westbrook or Conley.

C: Mitch / Gibson
PF: Randle / Toppin
SF: Bullock / Knox
SG: RJ / Quickley
PG: Payton / DSJ / Frank

We keep some optionality for mid-season moves when hopefully our guys show enough to
be value positive, and if not, waived. Either way, it’s going to be a development year and still a number of roster moves needed over time.

Still have Free Agency. That’s just not the roster they’re going to start the year with.

Didn’t they already indicate Payton was gone?

They’ll throw the bag at FVV and if they miss, it’ll be Russ for sure. I also suspect Randle is gone, especially since Charlotte doesn’t need Rozier.

Everyone is saying that we could of have Quickly at 33, but obviously Knicks didn't want to take that risk. With 8 spots between the picks it is likely that another team takes him that needs shooting from the PG position. Look at who the Celtics took one spot after, they probably take Quickly over a another undersized PG, since they desperately need more shooting after what happened in the Miami series.

But, I do think there is merit that maybe the Knicks were trying to make a play for RJ at 25 and Quickly at 33, but when RJ was taken they decided to throw the plan out the window and just go for their guy.

This. He might be fine, but why over Terry and bane?

Could've had him at 33

Terry cant shoot or defend as well as him. Theres a reason that Terry dropped to the 2nd round. You may have a point with Bane but I didnt see enough of bane to comment one way or the other.

i can't speak much for any of them, honestly. but from what i've read and researched, bane made more sense than quickley. hopefully they saw something no one else has.

Draft is a C, not an F.

They didn't make a huge move up to get LaMelo
They didn't make a slight move and get Hayes
Passed on Kira and Haliburton, but so did other teams. Then again, we've seen that story before (SGA anyone)

Toppin seems like a nice player, but Knicks need players who can create from the 3 point line on in to the rim, for themselves and others, in the WORST way, yet didn't wind up with one. They got a dunking PF who sometimes shoots 3's, and a 3&D, mostly spot up, undersized wing; smallish SG.

They made a move to move up - a positive - which winds up being Quickly, who isn't a scrub, but really, SEC player, Kentucky, etc etc and what is REALLY delineating him from 5 guys picked in his immediate vicinity. Or, honestly, guys picked all the way into the 40's

Then, after MORE draft maneuvering, where they move UP to get 33, and there is a bunch of PG's and shooters still left, they take a big, but then deal him to for a 2nd rounder that comes due in 2 years. Where you are gambling that team is among the worst in the league in 2 years, because the pick you were holding is 33!!!

No interesting trades. Other than moving up 4 spots, which really didn't matter. No extra player snatched from another team. No contracts taken on for picks, nothing.

Meanwhile, Detroit, as asset bare as the Knicks, is wheeling and dealing all over the place. Or Pelicans, who are obviously ahead of us in the rebuild. To say nothing of OKC, or even Memphis, who had a better draft night just being low key.

The Knicks looked like amateur hour. Ok, maybe that's harsh. Semi-pro hour.

Hey, I said I'd wait to form impressions of this FO. Rose and WWW have ALL kinds of contacts. They hired "genius" Brock Aller. Have the steady and very good pro Perrin. Revamped pro player scouting to some degree. And this was the result. Decidedly mediocre.

Knicks are mediocre again.

Of course it isn't the roster. But just how many FA's can the Knicks add.

I think we knew this, but boy, the Knicks are going to suck this year.

Would have been nice for that to be going on with a promising young wing of some kind, but think of all the Toppin dunks and Quickly spot up 3's!!!!!

seems like quickley was the priority. otherwise, they could have just taken hamption 23 and tried something else to get back in for one of the many shooting PGs still available. quickley must have been "the guy." and there was lasagna surrounding him, so if anything i suspect the gamesmanship being exactly how it went.

The two knocks that this board had against Toppin is his age and his lack of playing defense...

1. You actually need a mature guy to come in and play in New York. Not everyone can handle it but I think Obi can. And when is 22/23 old??? My lord guys, really? And this notion from some that he's a rim runner - for those... have you ever seen him play? SMH
2. Thibs (and the investment of our staff) should be able to improve Obi's defense. If he does that, does anyone realize this guy is a total package and yes it is doable.

The guy on NBATV said it best - how did this guy fall to #8?

Now, I think the Knicks have to make a play for FVV as last night seems to have set that up. I'm not saying that we'll compete for a title anytime soon but we got closer to competing.

I truly would like to see a lineup of FVV/Frank/Mitch/RJ/Toppin and I'd expect Frank to be more of a 3-d type while Fred would be the orchestrater, Mitch rim running and Obi & RJ being the primary scorers. In theory it could work... and with that type of lineup, I think you could mask Obi's defensive problems and also mask Mitch & Frank's offensive problems.

Final thought: Quickly is a shooter... something we desperately need. I don't think he was a reach at all. Wanted Hampton, but oh well.

Leon Rose will acquire a marquee veteran PG. I suspect the order of operations is:

1) FVV
2) Russ
3) Wall
4) Conley
5) Rozier

If we miss on FVV and the Rockets play hardball with Russ, I don’t think it takes long for the rumors liking Wall to the Kentucky Knicks.

I'm not.

Wall is washed. Rozier sucks. FVV - he wants $ over Toronto that bad? Conley - maybe, they'd have to trade and Russ is getting 40 million per.

And the team would still suck after getting any of those 5.

My issue is that it’s poor asset management.
I guess the whole move was last minute but you should’ve been able to do better than a 2023 2nd for pick 33.

I’m just very confused as to what the plan is at the moment.
We by far have the most cap space.
We still don’t have a PG
Randle? He’s got to go now.
Are we just gonna throw the bag at FVV and pray he takes it?

Knox obviously, because common sense. Some guys drafted at 19 need 3 or 4 years to get there. He's had 2. Plus the hope that COACH MAX PAYNE will whip him into shape. So they'll inspect that.

Randle would SEEM to be gone, but you know what? They might want him spending a year with Thibs and COACH MAX PAYNE as well.

I also suspect Randle is gone, especially since Charlotte doesn’t need Rozier.

i wouldn't be shocked if randle were gone FOR rozier. charlotte would have to be sending something with that though.

Rozier?

Lolz. This last few days just gets better and better.
