on 52/42/87 Splits. He’s 25.
While the Bulls cannot afford to lose him for nothing, their best offer from across the league is not going to be a 1st + Kevin Knox and a 2nd for example. It’s just not realistic.
You can play hardball with Chicago and keep an offer low. But in all likelihood the Knicks don’t acquire LaVine in that scenario which has an impact on signing him as a FA. Zach LaVine would be another in a laundry list of people who use the Knicks to increase their offer from another team.
If the Knicks truly believe that IQ-RJ-LaVine-Randle-Mitch has be the foundation of a young team (average age 22.8) that plays both ends of the floor then they will do everything they can to get him (within reason).
He’s too good to make a reasonable offer for. Jrue Holiday was 2 good players, 3 picks, and two draft swaps.
That’s the level the Knicks would have to send the Bulls. So probably our 2021 pick, the Two Mavs pick, probably Obi and a vet, and or maybe some pick swaps and possibly our own 2023 pick as well.
My MAX would be 2 Firsts. I just wouldn’t do 3 Firsts (that’s my personal example of within reason).
I’m not going to pretend that LaVine is some absolute superstar. Having said that, he’s entering his prime and has proven to be not only one of the best scorers in the league but one of the best shooters.
His 52-42-87 to me is not a fluke. This is the same guy that posted 45-38-80 last year and previously shot over 39% from 3PT in the prior 2 years.
I believe the same thing that Sham says often. That even though we have been one of the most embarrassing teams of the last 20 years there is only 3-4 players that this board would trade for.
I look at acquiring LaVine as a step in the right direction. We get a player in his prime, an ELITE shooter, who would be added to one of the worst shooting teams in the NBA in the Knicks. Furthermore, you get a guy who can get a bucket in the last 5min of the 4th Q.
Having another player that can take some pressure off RJ and Randle and even IQ at times would be a good thing.
At the end of the day I want to be a team that makes strides every year.
That and the fact that I want NOTHING to do with Oladipo. That dude is a terrible shooter and is ridiculously inefficient. Other than 2017 he’s proven to be unreliable, overrated and not a difference maker.
If we can’t get LaVine I would throw Joe Harris money at Trent Jr.
