Is RJ a rookie max or do you let him test RFA? That will decide how the franchise values him.

OKC has money to spend....the only fat contract they have is Kemba, and he expires well before any extension SGA kicks in. The cap space is no worry to them, and they've got picks for days. The only reason they trade him is because they have a chance to get an as good or better player. I don't think Barrett is that, but if OKC does, that's easily the cost...if not more.

I just think it's weird that people genuinely think he's hit his ceiling, and that he literally can't do anything with the ball in his hands

But the even weirder ones are those who are insistent that not only is he just a 3-D guy with literally no other skills, but that he's never been anything but a 3-D guy as a prospect, when he clearly hasn't been

Like, I get swapping RJ for SGA makes us better cause SGA is clearly better than RJ and a better prospect, but firstly it won't be a straight up swap, and secondly, the goal should be to get them together, if anything

It's like if in the Dame trade scenarios people suggested we trade Randle for Dame cause Dame's better. Yeah, that's true, but you want them both, not just one or the other.

This board and factions of Knicks twitter love to hard cap our young player's ceilings as like a counter balance to the extreme homers. It's bizarre to me. The rhetoric around RJ really surprises me. I don't remember anybody being as negative about KP this early on and RJ is way more likeable IMO.

If you recall

He came in as Fredric Weis II
Supposed to be something of a project, but had a ton of potential as a shooter, defender, rim runner. Once he started showing that promise, it was a nice surprise to be wrong. Also he had Melo there to take the arrows for him.

I think that Knicks have been burned so many times before that you can't just hope a guy keeps progressing, you have to bet against it and hope to be wrong.

RJ was so excited to play for the Knicks. It would
Be a bad look if we trade him. Especially to Oklahoma City

Its not like hes playing like a bust. He’s actually improving

This and like I said earlier, I think the appeal in NY for SGA (outside of obvious market size increase, fashion, etc.) is that he would pay with his Canadian buddy RJ. OKC has a history of sending their guys where they would like to go. If SGA pushes for NY, then you likely don't need to put RJ in the package. Mitch I think is a better fit for their core roster anyway and they wouldn't have to pay him a max or anything close to it.

Don't worry about trading for SGA until next year. Probably don't worry about it for another four years. The only teams with a realistic chance at SGA are Toronto, Detroit, Houston, Cleveland.

But in like 6-7 years we might have Zion-RJ-SGA. So keep the dream alive.

I love the week leading up to the draft and free agency. Literally nothing has happened around the league yet and most people here already label the offseason as a bust, say front office is trash, etc..

I like how there are those who suggest Trading Randle would be a bad look, but they have no qualms about trading RJ as if it wouldn't be a bad look.

the only guys Randle is attracting to this team are Lonzo types and some of those same posters are disgusted with that thought.

I remember some early KP negativity; he's not a number 1 option, not an alpha, too soft, overrated, we should trade him for x,y,z player. We hate everybody lol

The entire purpose to trading SGA is Bc they don’t want to pay him

Why would they want RJ? They would have to pay him too.

We can’t afford SGA because Obi is a bust. If we had Halliburton maybe they’d be interested. 19/21 are complete trash and everyone but this board knows that.

SGA is a better player, I'm not sure why NY would say RJ is off limits when they know OKC would only want players near SGA, which NY only has RJ as a player that works for proper compensation. A package of Quick and 1sts doesn't really do anything for a team that has like 30 picks over the next five years. They want good players in return for their very good player.

The rumors were Presti has a very long term vision (4 or 5 year plan) so he at max will want guys who are cost controlled but max going into their 2nd year. So that puts Obi and Quickley more on the table than RJ. It would be Obi and mutliple FRPs. He may like 19,21 and 32 if they could be packed for him to get a top 10 pick.

He may be holding out for a better deal but may take that from us. Something like: Obi, 19, 32, 2023 NY 1st round, 2025 1st rnd

Obi is a projectible big who improved as the season went on that is still liked by many teams.

Probably ONLY guy RJ would get moved for is Lillard.

Very Knicksy.

Siakam definitely suffers career ending knee injury soon after trade to Knicks.

Rule of thumb is if you’re trading with the Knicks there’s an extra tax because nobody wants to lose a trade to them. With that being said get SGA or at least try.

Lonzo is intriguing. He is more or less SGA without the scoring/shooting. But defense , passing ,IQ etc. is very, very good. He is very much a THIBs player.

He is an excellent complement should we go the trade route for a top scoring wing like Lillard or Sexton. Or even Derozen.
