Again I like Mikal, I just don't think he meaningfully changes our ceiling so I wouldn't pay a premium for him. He would be a great fit with our starting lineup for the same reasons Grimes was when he was playing well, but what separates us from the Celtics/Bucks isn't that, it's that neither Julius nor Jalen are as good as Giannis or Tatum.

That's why I'd be more interested in more affordable options like OG, DFS, or Harrison Barnes.

DFS is the guy imo. Can slot in at 3 or 4, physical defender, good attitude and can hit the three currently at 44%. The asking price is most likely a first.

Yeah, I like DFS a lot. OG is attractive to me because he's such a great POA defender and that should help us avoid scrambling as much, which should mean better closeouts, but the price tag there makes me hesitate...both in terms of picks and contract...whereas DFS is signed to a good deal and the price would be fine for him even if we had to give up the 2 FRPs that the Nets reportedly wanted for him; as long as one of those could be one of our protected picks.

I don't think that asking price holds right now. No one is going to give up 2 1sts for a 3 + D roleplayer that can't create his own shot. Marks was just trying to gouge teams after the KD trade.

Could you imagine Thibs being happy with Bogs defense? I don’t get the talk when Frenchy is on the bench.
We get Bogs and we are a more solid mid team who just got older, less athletic and lost more assets.

Where are we going?

Here's something I don't understand about Thibs. Frenchy is on the bench because he doesn't play defense, right? So why is it acceptable for Julius to not even attempt to get back on defense at times? Thibs is supposed to be a hold people accountable guy, but for whatever reason, that doesn't apply to everyone. You wonder what his criteria is

All Bogs would need to do is figure out how to be put on Thibs' "does not apply" list.

Because even with Brunson & Randle jogging back at times, neither is in Fournier's stratosphere of defensive liability, and both make a much bigger offensive impact to compensate.

Bogdanovic has neither the creation skills to bare a similarly large offensive responsibility, nor does he defend as well as Randle or Barrett. Hell he's not even as good as Brunson defensively.

Bojan is not a good fit for this roster. Hard pass.

Why not? We paid 1 FRP + a reclamation project for an expiring Josh Hart and that move has gotten love from all corners with hindsight. Now consider that DFS is a better 3&D guy than Josh...bigger, so he can even play some smallball 5, and a better shooter...plus he comes with term on a team friendly contract.

He's not worth even 1 premium pick, but not all FRPs are the same. So a lotto protected 2024 NYK FRP + that protected Washington FRP that's least likely to convey of all our picks, to turn Fournier into DFS? That would make sense for us and let Marks talk up how he got his ask met.

Mitchell would be perfect for the Nets. Pair him with Siakam & Mikal and they could be guaranteed a 1st round exit every year.

dakomish23 wrote:John Collins is back on the block. Won't cost much at all. Fournier, small salary filler and very little in pick value should do it. He was traded to Utah for Rudy Gay (salary filler) and a 2nd round pick. He was my target if they were going to let Obi go and we get a chance to make that right.

Backup PF plus can play some small ball C next to Randle. Having a solid bounce back season efficiency wise. I felt last year was an outlier b/c his other seasons leading up to it he was solid for a big from 3PT land. Decent PnR threat at 1.24 PPP. For reference Mitch is our best PnR PPP at 1.25.

22 games as a starter - 31 MPG
14.5 PPG 8.6 RPG 0.9 APG 0.6 SPG 1.0 BPG
48.2% on 11.4 FGA
38.3% on 3.7 3PA
75.0% on 2.7 FTA
54.4% EFG 57.3% TS

Not a sexy or splashy move but will def address a need, especially with Mitch out.

Thibs is not gonna like no rim protection... is he willing to play him? Cuz Thibs seriously don't give a fck who Leon brings unless we're firing him.

Collins is trash.

Send RJ+IQ+picks for Spida. (Fournier for salary match)

Brunson and Spida is a starting point… build from there

I just don't get how it really works. I mean, my agent works for me and their job would be to get me the most/best deal based on my criteria. Cutting off half the league at any given time is just spiteful to myself...

If it were not for that lawsuit OG would be here already.

I'm actually not convinced about that. It's only intuition but I believe the Knicks likely gauged beforehand what the odds of being able to complete a trade for OG are....I think they only proceeded with the lawsuit after they determined that there is no chance at OG. I think they'd OG over that lawsuit any day of the week.....

But it is kind of annoying to think about how many opportunities are blocked right now....Leon was brought in to bring in stars but it seems with his presence here, half the players are blocked from coming to the Knicks....I don't like the dynamic

To be fair the Knicks weren’t an open door to Klutch before Rose officially joined. This org has been in bed with CAA since before Melo came here and Phil was the only real pause in that relationship as he tanked the franchise.

Even if Leon left I doubt the Knicks are going to be running to trade for Klutch players.

On the day that Rudy G was hit with $150M for defamining people, don't you go defaming my name BKlutch.

Ya gotta B Klutch.

He’s on his way to becoming a full court player- he’ll take up the full court.

We need picks left for a star.
We’d all love Mikal but he doesn’t put us over the top.

And Nets will try to Ainge us.

We’d need our 3, 4 and 5 to be stellar on defense. Possible. We got the 5.
And with two short guys at the 1 and 2 it’d be a switching nightmare.

And Mitchel is getting to that age where his athleticism can start to go (and that is a huge part of his game.)

I'm ok with the current team. Whatever they do by this TDL, I can't imagine being any big splash. Maybe they stay healthy and pull of a serious run in the playoffs. Maybe they just bounce up and down and first round exit. Wake me when a serious trade is being discussed.

Then get a guy like DeRozan or Bojan Bogdanovic. It will add to our firepower without breaking up the core.
