I just can't see how, if Melo has made it clear that he wants to play for the knicks (hence the lack of offers from so many teams) that Morey would be dumb enough to give up assets. He must have a real tight friendship with the Nuggets owner. Not only would he get a very angry player, but he would significantly damage his image with future free agents.

Morey knows Melo won't resign. He will do it so the Knicks have to deal with him

I don't think it's a coincidence that the two teams that are hot for Melo have something to gain by not seeing Melo go to the Knicks. Nets for PR reasons and building a fanbase in Brooklyn, and Houston obviously cause they control our picks.

Classic that he's trying to make like he was right. Upside down bizarro world.

He said Melo had accepted the extension with NJ "as long as they offer him a max contract."

After waking up in a cold sweat, I spent 90 seconds on Hoopshype, and I'm thrilled to share that the following trade is nearly impossible:

-Carmelo & Nene
-Noah, Gibson & Deng

Whew.

Here's the transcript to an interview of Joe Lacob (Warriors owner) by Mercury News. Includes stuff about Melo:

http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2011/01/20/joe-lacob-interview-part-2-on-possibly-trading-ellis-or-curry-trying-to-trade-for-carmelo-evaluating-smart-and-more/

-Q: Can you get involved in the Carmelo Anthony deal?

-LACOB: We’ve had discussions with Denver. And I think it’s possible. But unfortunately he clearly wants to be one place geographically. At least, it appears. And I mean one very specific place.

I wonder what that place could be.

If Melo is truly holding out for the Knicks, then he is going to be a bigger star than Amare here...Especially if it's at the point where he is going to demand Denver take lesser players than they want in order to not hurt his future team

I'm not saying that it's true, but if it turns out that way then Melo is going to look like a hero to the Knicks and the fans

Eh, he'll be appreciated, but this will still be Amare's team. Stat came here by himself. That counts for more than Melo forcing his way here to play with another star.

It may count for more but melo has more cache and will likely be the bigger star but the city would undoubtedly shower massive love on both guys.

Who's to say that Melo wouldn't have been the first to come if he came here before stat. Bottom line, he could still get the word out to go some place else. It seems like he truly wants to come home...

I agree. He'll be greeted as a conquering hero.

There are ifs, and there are what actually went down. Stat came and put the franchise on his shoulders, after the crushing "The Decision" and he came BY HIMSELF. Nothing will change that.

This will be Stat's team for the foreseeable future.

Reduced for quick sale.

Lets not forget the Nuggets asking price is astronomical. KG didnt even go for this much and he wasnt entering free agency. Nuggets seem to want to have their cake and eat it too. They are losing Melo and they are asking for a price that would suggest that they have an option. The simply dont. I dont think Walsh will budge. I think Walsh would give up Chandler before Gallo because of contract reasons and trying to stay under cap. I think he will offer Chandler, Curry, Fields, and 1st round pick. If they dont want it he will probably tell them to walk. Anything more than that is paying too much for the dire situation they are in.

Chandler and Fields is reasonable. Chandler and AR would be better but I think Fields would be more desirable. As big as Carmelo is he could function as a 2 guard on paper.

Chandlers looking at 9-10mil a season. Gallo has another year before we have to think about any extention and thats why he will be spared in trade until next season.

My position at this point is do what you have to with in reason in order to get Melo, Stat and Felton together. There will be NO other "Bulldog" big three like those three in the league.

I agree. Two of the three is reasonable. I wouldn't start negotiations there but I wouldn't allow it to be a deal breaker.
