Both are sfs but I feel like either could switch to the 2

Imagine landing bridges for picks and bogon and Robinson?

Brunson / Duce
OG / devo
Bridges / hart
Randle / precious?
Hartenstien / ?

That would be something... DDV would have to "buy in" which I'm sure he would as he can get the same # of minutes as this season... then we can use one of the remaining draft picks to get a back-up big.

Why not start Caruso over Donte then?

I love me some Ragu, but if we have Jalen, Julius, and OG starting those are 3 good offensive options.

Donte really took off once Julius and OG went down. Before that he was barely averaging 10 ppg.

Caruso could play the D/3 role at SG and Donte becomes 6th man offensive sparkplug.

Alex is not mid. He’s a 6’5” elite defender who has some PG skills and can shoot 40% from 3. He’s basically the guard version of OG.

Donte was averaging 15 PPG with JB, Randle, and OG. 13 PPG game before the OG trade. Donte also spreads the fall a bit more than Alex. I prefer Donte as 2-guard.

Those Donte averages are slightly skewed because of his big 38 pt game at the end of December (the day we traded RJ and IQ for OG, who wasnt with us yet) and his 28 and 33 pt games at the end of January (when Julius and OG were already out).

Point is Donte leveled up after Julius and OG went down. He had a solid January with them and the team was winning, but his minutes/role was a bit sporadic.

Caruso is a better defender than Donte, while still providing similar shooting, so he may theoretically fit better with the starters while Donte cooks bench units. Alex can play with Jalen and Donte too, so they’d share all of the guard minutes.

Just a thought. Maybe Ragu can get back to focusing on defense more again this season with less offensive load, but Alex is elite as is.

Jalen
Alex
OG
Julius
Isaiah

Donte
Josh
Bojan
Mitch

That’s a pretty damn good and balanced 9 man, assuming Deuce goes out for Alex and no other moves are made.

Alex, OG, and Isaiah are all in the top 6 of Defensive EPM in the whole league, and they’d be starting for us.

I think Precious might get a decent contract elsewhere, but I'm with you. Sims doesn't do it for me.

I was wondering what teams would go after him. I'm hoping no one buys the turnaround he had here and we can keep him. Just so much better than Sims

Tyus Jones is a UFA. I don't see it possible we can get him unless he takes an exception we can offer - idk if we even have any. I haven't looked at our cap sheet or the CBA rules for where we are.

**** man. This guy would have been perfect here

Fair enough.

My thinking here is I liked OG at the 4 a lot and this gives us another big wing we could use at the 3/4 with Hart picking up the rest of the 3 minutes. There's a fair argument to keeping the power based 4 for an inside presence.

Maybe you don't (ie the Dame/Holiday trade) but to maximize value on the Randle plus draft capital for potential star trade you need to find a third team for Randle.
Maybe the Pistons who have the 5th pick, love doing business with us and considering hiring Perry to be their GM?
Or the Rockets who have the 3rd pick and some interesting young players and are looking to push themselves into the WC Playoffs?

Ingram's also got injury issues, missed a combined 82 games over the past 3 seasons (64 games played this year is the most since his rookie year).

Nikola Topic/Kasparas Jakucionis
VJ Edgecombe/Jrue Holiday
Shaedon Sharpe/Cedric Coward
Kyle Filipowski/Collin Murray-Boyles
Alex Sarr/Clint Capela

iHart -> 4 year extension 16M+ per
OG -> opt-in and extend 5 year total... 35m+ per
Brunson -> opt-in and extend 5 year total... 180m total
Randle -> opt-in and extend 5 year total... 155m total
Burks -> vet min deal
Precious -> part of MLE

This is Knicks culture. We're going for a title and guys want to be here for it.

Not sure why you keep bringing up Tyus.

He’s a small PG who doesnt defend well. He can facilitate and backup Jalen but they wouldn’t be able to play together much, if at all. Seems like a waste of resources.

Any guard we get should be able to play some 1 and 2, or else they’re stuck only playing 12 mpg behind Jalen.

Same thing with backup PF. If Precious could shoot he’d be a perfect backup 4/5, but he cant. While Mitch can only play the 5. Obi couldn’t play the 5 with his lack of rebounding/defense, so he was stuck behind Julius exclusively.

Easier said than done, but we need more versatile players.

You think the Pacers would take a mid to late round first for McConnell? Would you give that up for McConnell?

TJ is legit.

He averaged 10.2 pts and 5.5 asts in only 18 mpg this season. Thats 20 pts and 11 asts per 36 minutes. Had a PER of 21, which is borderline All Star level. He didn’t just cook us. He cooked everyone.

TJ is 32 now and going into the last year of his contract. He’d be an amazing backup, but feel he deserves and wants more minutes elsewhere than what we could give him. He’s pesky but he’s only 6’1” also. Haliburton has more size to play with him some than Jalen.

Depends on what we could get him for I suppose. A 1st for a 32 year old small guard on the last year of his contract may not make the most sense for us.

Caruso is 2 years younger and 4 inches bigger, so if I had to go after one of the two it would be him.

Or we can just hope Deuce and Donte keep improving, which is likely judging from this season, and save our assets for the true big fish.
