I would say this is a much different situation than bosh. The CBA makes a big difference whether you want to believe it or not. If this new CBA wasn't on the horizon Melo would be a knick. The nuggets have leverage because melo wants the extension. I don't want to hear that BS that he was laughing and smiling when he said he cares about the extension.

Are you trying to tell me that the Owners can MAKE the players association AGREE to whatever they want?

If we get Carmelo in free agency our team will most likely be
Felton
Fields
Melo
Amare
???
Its a crazy lineup but thats weak defensively and we need a center badly to make a playoff run. What about kendrick perkins?

We would have to use our assets to trade for one...the assets we have left that is (we would have to renounce Chandler and trade other players to sign him).
That's why we need to trade for him now - so we can make use of the exceptions and sign Dalembert for the MLE.

I don't think we can predict what can happen, and I'm sure his agents are feeding him the doomsday scenario. Personally I would agree with you. The players association is not going to agree with huge salary cuts like some we've been hearing. But there is a shadow of uncertainty around it and most players seem to want to lock in the extensions now. We'll see if Melo is different.

If you agree that they won't agree to the projected salary cuts. How can you not agree that if there is a "salary cut" that it won't be rolled back? Would that not be a fair and reasonable assumption?

Re: [Camelo Thread Part 12] - Melo's list grows? pg. 50
The win against the Heat, in my opinion, was an awesome thing to happen for the Knicks in the Melo-drama and I'll explain why.
Yes, the Heat have been struggling lately with some injuries and were missing Bosh even in this game but it still had something that could be learned from. When the Heat were healthy and hitting on all cylinders they were too much for the Knicks for 48 minutes. Too much for the whole league, in fact.
With the 3 divas missing Bosh the game showed that the two teams were closer to even with what the Knicks have now. You would think the Knicks would have to be perfect to beat a team with 2 of the leagues top 5 players and yet the Knicks weren't perfect at all but still prevailed against the Heat.
Melo can do the talent math as he watched this game. He knows if the Knicks can add him while not losing much talent they can compete even with a healthy Heat team. Obviously one game won't make his decision for him but it is just another thing to consider in the biggest decision of his life.
We know he's doing the talent math with every option around him because he's stated that winning is most important to him. More important than money. So while everyone else is doing the salary money math and speculating, he's doing the talent math.

Re: [Camelo Thread Part 12] - Melo's list grows? pg. 50
As much as Will is one of my favorite Knicks right now, I have learned something from him the last 3 weeks or so. I think he could turn into a very good player in this league, but the flaw I see from his is that he can't handle these trade talks. Let me explain.
Chandler was balling about 3 or 4 weeks ago. He was killing it game in and game out. Then these trade rumors come up and he becomes so rattled by it, and so bad on the court, that he couldn't even play at the end of the game against the Heat. What I take from this is that come playoff time, I think he is the kind of player that would fold. I don't think he could handle the pressure. I understand that it is a lot to take when you keep hearing that you will be traded but I don't think I have ever seen it effect someone so much before. This just leads me to believe that he isn't cut out for the big moments. Again, Chandler is one of my favorite players, and I have been struggling to give him up in a trade, but I am now more willing than ever.
Conversely, Gallo and Fields proved to me that they are clutch. Gallo has had a few big shots this year, and Fields has a few as well. I think that come playoff time I could see these two elevating their game to a whole new level.
So, what I am getting at is this, this is my final deal to Denver, I would tell them take it or leave it, because as far as I'm concerned Gallo and Fields are staying here.
Chandler, AR, Curry, one of Walker/Douglas/Turiaf, and a pick
for
Anthony.
Take it or leave it.

Re: [Camelo Thread Part 12] - Melo's list grows? pg. 50
Stupormn,
To your point I actually learned some different lessons from this game
1) the heat are exceptionally talented at 3 positions and their role players are solid but their stars lack the ability to play together. Instead they ball watch and slip into bad habits. They are a one on one team from multiple positions. Were better than that in part by necessity
2) if we don't hit our shots we struggle to beat anyone but we do have the ability to play defense. Right now we rely on the 3 way way way too much. We need to improve our midrange game and rebounding to avoid being beat in transition.
3) when we don't have amare on the floor we struggle to make shots because the defense can play hints and we a not used to that. The only players who do well when amare is off the floor are gallo and Chandler in part because they can make their own shots.
The final result is that melo would vastly improve this team in part because he can continue to score when the team struggles to gets shots and in part because he Dan draw defense away from the guys who benefit from that the most like Fields, Felton and Willaims

This.
And as Donnie Walsh was quoted earlier Denver won't engage the Knicks in any serious talks as to what they would want to deal Melo. The ball is in their court as the trading deadline approaches in a few weeks.

Apparently Chandler is out. Maybe a Melo trade is close and Chandler is on the way to Denver.
