This would be true if they traded anything of consequence to get him, but this may as well have been a free agent signing with space because their asset base is still loaded.

They got out of Zach Collins awful deal and didn't have to send out any young players

Yeah I get all that - theyre core is still intact and they have a lot of capital still. But it's still fox taking up a huge chunk of their cap space. Which could be used for a more efficient player who plays defense.

Fox will make them better but by how much I'm not sure. I have my doubts this move will propel them to contention.

Fox's contract extension is scary but I suppose the Spurs have enough picks to have an out.

Like you I'm skeptical of this trade but let's see.

Is the 2025 Hornets pick unprotected? Losing out on Flagg for Fox would be quite silly.

That's the pick the Knicks got from Charlotte when they traded their 1st round pick for a heavily protected 1st rounder.

Knicks traded that pick to Atlanta in the Cam Reddish/Kevin Knox Deal. That pick went to San Antonio in the Murray trade.

What has the Luka trade made Sixers think of Embiid's conditioning now??? lol

Read on Twitter

Luka legit looks like he's thinking "FU Mavs, Nico, the new owners for daring to deal me, I'll drop 80 on you **** next we meet" more than "YAY I'm a Laker!!!"

As per usual, Kings' fans relief is short lived.

I know, I know they got Lavine. Like we haven't seen him with DeRozan before. They even have their own Vuc!

I really have no idea what the kings are doing. Lavine is a nice player, but he’s an awful fit for the kings. They have no point guard now and they thought getting another SG was the answer. Like they got rid of Haliburton prematurely to build around Fox. Only to to trade Fox for another shooting guard.

I thought it was a horrible trade. Is there even a year of salary relief in it for the Kings?

I guess they'll have Monk play PG. He's not bad as secondary facilitator but full time PG? Who knows. Is he that much worse setting up an offense than Brunson?

LaVine is owed like 90+m over the next two years

The Kings are run by idiots.

They truly are. It's shocking that there are always two or three incompetent franchises waiting to bend over to hook up the Lakers and some other team.

https://www.spotrac.com/nba/player/_/id/23600/deaaron-fox

Fox roughly 30 million per, so the Kings get to add bad fit, injury risk and 10 million more per year in a league where watching the cap REALLY matters now.

And Fox is two years away from his next deal, which no doubt will pay what LaVine gets or more, but that is still this season and next away.

Basically gifting the Spurs 48 mpg of very good/excellent PG play, and a really fast player who should thrive where Wemby is keeping the paint wide open by camping outside.

Now GMs around the L when they call Denver, Milwaukee be like "hey, not saying you're thinking about it, but if you ever come to that point, you know you can... call me first right, right??"

Conspiracy theory: it's said the Mavs owner Adelson family wants to build a casino in Dallas??? But they're faced with roadblocks, maybe somehow someway Jeannie/ Buss family has the power to remove those roadblocks, and if the Buss were to help them build the casino, they'd get Luka...????

Trading Haliburton to build around Fox was one of the worst decisions I can remember in my 20+ years following the league.

Trading Luka for a soon to be 32-year-old AD takes the cake but the lack of foresight regarding Fox and Haliburton's career trajectories was baffling.

We both like Lavine and I hope he succeeds there but the Kings really are a joke of a franchise. Sad because the early-2000s teams were among my favorite basketball teams ever.

Im not sure there’s salary relief (haven’t paid attention to their contracts lol)

Having Monk play PG is like asking Donte to play PG. I really don’t know what the kings are thinking here.

They also drafted Bagley over Luka and Trae. Just dreadful.

This is one of those trades where Rob doesn't need to say **** about the deal. Intro Luka and bounce. Nico sounds like a freakin' idiot.

I actually don't hate the Lavine move for Sacramento but, that probably has more to do with me being higher on Lavine than most. Obviously assuming this isn't the only move they make through this and the next transaction cycle.

A Lavine/Sabonis combo should be pretty potent offensively. They now have more ammo (that 2031 T-Wolves pick is a sneakily really good asset to dangle) to get some better fitting pieces around those 2. Can they find some more two way players?

I would consider dangling Monk for a more defensive oriented guy. Maybe you can get some team to give you spare parts and a pick for Derozan?

Keon Ellis is a nice piece to have long-term. Keegan Murray has been much better the past few months. They have some stuff to work with.

I think they have better optionality with their roster now than they did before.

Do the kings need a backup center? Mitch for Monk
