At least this season proved 1 thing....Brunson is an absolute star and clutch player you can build around. Probably best Knicks all around player since Patrick Ewing.

And we've also at this point proved Randle is not an ideal #2. when he is going well he can look absolutely unstoppable and its great bc the low IQ doesn't matter at that point bc he hits many ridiculous shots when he is on like that....however the big moments still too often get in his head and then he does NOT shoot nearly as well and then the low IQ stuff sticks out bc he has no idea how to make good decisions consistently. He becomes an absolute negative in those points.

RJs problem is a bit low IQ in certain situations (but not as bad as Randle). His bigger problem is touch on his shots. And that can be worked on in the offseason. I dont love RJs game (yet but he is still young) but if you trade one of him or Randle and get a true star in the mix...the one left over of JR or RJ become your #3 which wouldnt be as bad.

Maybe the Mavs would like Rose or Fournier??? Probably both sides would be happy to remove the protection on the Mavs 23 pick, or maybe change it to top 3 or whatever.

But I don't see the Knicks wanting Dwight Powell or Bertans. Or Dinwiddie in place of Fournier.

Like thebuzzardman was suggesting, it's hard to see exactly how the Knicks would use a 18m exception in a way that would be more efficient than just keeping Fournier or Rose. Maybe they'd just sit on it until December or this time next year.

The Archidiacano and Taj moves are just what we anticipated. I don't see they signify anything in particular, except keeping the Knicks's options open for a few days.

This did not age well.

I'm pretty sure I watched every Mavs game last year, maybe missed one or two at the end of the regular season. Brunson's clearly an extremely good player. Frankly, $26m a year for four years is a bargain. He's probably more deserving of s max deal than Garland for example.

Not bad. I’m always cautious if a player excels in a smaller role. Harden was a massive breakout after leaving OKC. Brunson is another. But there are so many players who become more inefficient with increased roles or simply over time - just look at Poole or Simons. Not everybody can back it up and Brunson is not a plus defender. You don’t just overpay these guys.

Ignore their numbers, look at how the bench performs that's a much better indicator of the abilities of a bench guard. Brunson literally led the most efficient bench in NBA history in his 2nd season. The numbers may be fugazi, the scoreboard never is. This is also why I'm happy IQ finally got unleashed. He's in that same category of super talented bench guys.

We should sticky this thread given that this was the Knicks most significant offseason move in over 20 years.

Arguably the most valuable PG in the league right now when you consider efficiency, age, and contract. Who was definitely better this year? Serious question.

Vet? He's 25 and this was his first season as a starter.

Are you serious rn?

Brunson is a non-rookie contract player who’s now making 20% of the entire salary cap. Brunson + Randle + Fournier = >50% of the entire cap.

Any sane team would never have signed 25 year old veteran Julius Randle after being bad in 2019, just as any sane team would have purged all the veteran contracts to start IQ/Obi in 2022-23.

This is exactly the same thing. It’s the Steve Mills plan. Which was always just the Isiah plan. I like Brunson, but it is what it is and there’s very little hope of competing for championships at any point during the remainder of Brunson’s likely career.

Ouch.

Hey. Fool me 3x shame on me!

Looked like the same failing strategy as THJ and Randle to me. As I said I liked Brunson, but I’m not afraid to admit I NEVER saw this coming.

Jalen Brunson is a miracle on Earth and I’m as devoted an acolyte as anyone. All praise be to Leon (and by extension Dolan)! That’s right, GOOD JOB JIMMY BOY!

Brunson's efficiency inside the arc is something fierce for a guy his size and I think there's more to his passing ability than what meets the eye with his basic stats. Thibs also has a history of getting the most out of offense first smaller guards. I think it's a really good match and I hope he exceeds the contract given to him.

This is how you know Jalen Brunson is a superstar.

He made it safe for CGMW to forget about James Dolan and enjoy rooting for the Knicks again.

That's next level.
