1 of 4, 1st rounder, tpe and cash. I think that chasm can be made up with something like Walker + 1st or something. Felton for Billups if necessary. -Jitpal

is this on a radio show?

2 of 4 ? who are the 4?

Yeah SAS is doing a "special edition" of his show. The 4 are Gallo, Chandler, Mozgov, & Fields. Denver wants 2, NY is offering 1. -Jitpal

If it weren't for Walsh, we wouldn't even have a chance at the stars.

So the Denver Nuggets valuation is 310 million dollars. Now suppose they lose Melo and the franchise takes a hit similar to the Cavaliers who dropped 26% in value year-over-year. Let's just say they drop 20% in value. That would be about 64 million dollars. Given their position where they have to sell the team it would seem clear that priority #1 is resigning Melo (no captain obvious images please). Maybe they've done some calculus where they figured out that if they lose Melo via trade or free agency they are equally screwed so they might as well try to keep him.

Their top priority has to be sell the team more than build a championship given the 2014 date. I wonder how much of that factors in to Melo's desire to get out of there (if at all).

That's what I've been saying all along. For Denver, the monetary value of attempting to keep him by exacting leverage between February & July might be significantly higher than the monetary value of executing a trade that brings back only mediocre talent and/or limited cap flex.

Big sentence to say, yeah. I agree. This is a major factor, but not the only factor.

So do you think Melo would have come without Amare? I don't think so.

Jitpal wrote:Bucher on SAS now:

- D'Antoni's recent comments make him believe that the coach is on the hot seat. The Knicks early success is to blame for the current expectations.

- Bucher and SAS are both saying Melo is pissed this is taking this long. Melo feels like all things being equal he wants to be in NY otherwise he might look at other options.

- Bucher doesn't think that NJ deal would ever have gotten done. Melo didn't want NJ. He feels the leaked details created a false standard and no team can meet that deal. The put themselves in a corner because whatever they get won't be worth Melo or the rumored NJ deal.

- Bucher feels 50-50 Melo in NY by deadline. SAS said more than 75-25...he's sure.

- Bucher also said that Walsh is in the hot seat. -Jitpal

if we kept those contracts we would never have gotten amare last offseason, which is probably the biggest reason melo (or most stars) would even want to play in NY at this point

johnnywishbone wrote:As an aside I don't know if this has been discussed about Kroenke:

In 2010, Kroenke exercised his right of first refusal to buy the remaining interest in the St. Louis Rams. [2] On August 25, 2010, he became full owner of the Rams by unanimous consent of the NFL. To gain approval from NFL owners, Kroenke agreed to turn over control of the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche to his son, Josh, by the end of 2010, and he must give up his majority stake in both teams by December 2014. The NFL does not allow its owners to hold majority control of major league teams in other NFL cities.[3]

I wonder what will happen with that? I don't know if he can sell/gift it to his kid. But if you think $23 million is a lot the tax implications of gifting the teams to his kid are ridiculous. I imagine they are going to have to be looking to sell. I think that puts some big time spin on all of this.

I don't want to get into a complicated and irrelevant discussion with you.

If I'm Kroenke Melo has to either sign the extension pre 24th or he gets traded. Obviously if Melo is going to remain a Nugget then you don't trade him. However, he has made it clear for 8 months that he doesn't intend to sign TWO extension much less one. Therefore, you ask him one last time if he will commit pre 24th and if he refuses you trade him. You don't play guessing games when all signs are pointing to you losing...

and even if we dont land Melo, (but we will) were still highly flexible and still able to move on, while isiah left us handcuffed and trading bad contracts for bad contracts.

Donnies always said Dolans been honest with him, and never made him feel otherwise so Im not completely buying into these rumors. But it is creepy scary the way Dolan Loves Isiah...Im really hoping Jerome James does something good for a change and writes a book during his time here. Cuz theres a lot of unanswered questions from that era that we deserved answered...

SAS says Felton isn't a sticking point. Denver just "inquired" about Felton in an effort to jettison Billup's contract. -Jitpal

Yeah he said he reported it and BT misquoted him this morning. That's what I'm thinking, at least these teams are talking and as I noted above the teams aren't that far apart. -Jitpal
