Getting OG back is legitimately one of the best deals that we’ve made in a long time.
I liken this to the Debusschere trade.
good comp. But Brun and Randle not Clyde and Willis unfortunately.

Brunson and Randle. Not perfect but pretty close.

That just seems odd. Like I understand hating someone like Noah who came here and said he was just partying and stealing money. Or other guys who just didn't give a sh*t. But that didn't seem like the case.
Now I want he knicks to beat the snot out of the raps when we play them but I don't want to see RJ or IQ play bad in TOR. I am hoping for a win/win deal. We got a really good player in OG so I am happy!
He's already failed.![]()
He was the third pick in the draft and he didn't develop. Bad shooting, bad defense.
yeah he didn't develop
but hes not a bust. Anthony Bennett is a bust, rj isn't although I am very suspicious that he's gonna get another big contract.

If we're being serious for a second, I think the issue for a lot of people is that the bolded question is asked from the same perspective that drives the cyclical debate about RJ on these forums the past few years. To many, myself included, RJ Barrett has already clearly failed. He has posted failure-level results in the NBA. There are numerous metrics that point out the depths of his negative impact, and they are ignored/brushed aside by many for the sake of an emotional connection to the player himself and/or the need for him to pan out for the team. A whole year of results, hell YEARS of results, are treated the same as a 7 game set, a great back to back, or even a lights out half.
So for some fans, RJ Barrett has already failed by objective measures, and the inability of others to acknowledge this creates an animus towards any concept based in the notion that he's somehow a solid option, good bet, or anything else that runs in stark contrast to what the measurables on him have clearly said for years now.
I think what you're seeing as rooting for RJ to fail is actually instigating those on the other side of the argument to finally acknowledge that he's a poor NBA basketball player on the whole, and not some intriguing prospect to dream on. I honestly think 99.44% of Knicks fans wouldn't be mad at all if RJ somehow became a completely different player in TOR and made a positive impact on the court, for all the reasons you laid out - he's a good kid, hard worker, head on straight, rode for the franchise, etc.
Just my opinion.
yeah. a lot of this is a reaction to his fan-base that overreacted to every single thing he did positively while ignoring that it was few and far between. he's clearly a better player than frank but that was the same situation. his fan-base was overbearing to people who pointed out his flaws too. it's less about the player than the people that defend him actually. like grimes has been a disappointment but there isn't much animosity about him because he doesn't have the kind of fan-base that defends him at every turn. plus....we do it for the lolz

I don't think you understand the term failed. He got a second contract and wasn't a bust like a lot of lottery picks because he still has value on the league. We ended up using IQ/RJ to get a really good piece for us.
But I digress, it still doesn't mean you should wish poorly on him. He didn't live up to expectations but he was good kid/teammate so I hope he does well. I surely won't be dancing around celebrating if he does poorly in TOR too...that seems like odd behavior.

RJ's home and has 100M. Nice kid. I'd be nice too with $100M. We deserve the lulz.
