1) Dallas isn't trading Tyson Chandler. Some of you are taking Cuban's comments to the extreme. Of course he'd look into renting Melo, but only if the price is right. Giving up their one and only young asset (Beaubois) and their starting center who has been integral to their defensive improvements this season is not something Cuban would be willing to do.

2) el loco already posted, but Denver wouldn't want to gift Melo to Dallas either.

3) Denver probably wouldn't want to gift Melo to the Lakers either, and I'm sure even the fans would prefer a NY deal over a LAL one. Fans don't easily forget Kobe's rape trial.

The only competition we should really be worried about is Chicago. There's like a 40 page thread on the Bulls board about how GSW is interested in acquiring Luol Deng for expiring contracts. Chicago has always been the wild card if they could find a 3rd team to take Deng's contract. They have more picks than us (plus the Bobcats' pick, although it's lotto protected), and some decent young players like Gibson (although Gallo or Chandler are better prospects imo...but who knows what Denver is coveting?)

because even with him they won't be a successful playoff team, plus they're looking to save money. no way would they resign him. are they letting nene walk for him ?

If I'm a rebuilding team, I'm taking players that will get me back to the playoffs again. That's the point of rebuilding. We don't even know if Nene wants to stay in Denver (he reportedly want's a trade), so trading him probably wouldn't be a bad idea for the Nuggets anyway to fill other holes on their roster. If any team EVER has a chance to lock up their center position and interior defense long term, they usually pursue that opportunity. It's one of the most difficult pieces to find in the NBA. Chandler is more valuable as a player than as an expiring contract. Even if Chandler doesn't resign with the Nuggets, they could probably pull a S&T over the summer to a team in need of a center (about half the NBA).

this is a team that traded away marcus camby for nothing just to save money. you're not getting it. they won't sign him.

In regards to Beaubois, I just think he's more attractive (in terms of trade value) than Fields and more attractive than Chandler (because he's an RFA).

It really depends on whether NY is confident in Melo's decision to sign with them this summer. I do think NY can beat a Dallas offer, I just think your going to have to be willing to give up some pieces you they not want to.... and NY may not want to do that if they are fairly confident in Melo's desire to sign with them.

That's why I think the win-win-win situation is the following:

Denver trades Melo to Dallas.
Dallas gets a serious playoff run
Denver gets to get under the cap can try to sign Jeff Green and Gasol/Chandler
Dallas extends and trades Melo to NY
NY signs and trade Chandler + sends AR to Dallas.
NY gets superstar
Ill Wil gets his contract + goes to a good team.
AR goes to a team where he will get a chance to play.

This is a feasible scenario. First, NY has to be confident that Cuban can't convince Melo to stay thoguh... and likewise, Cuban has to be confident that he CAN convince Melo to stay.... which all signs indicate that he is confident he can.

If that plays out and Melo's desire hasn't changed, then I could see a Chandler/AR S&T package with Dallas for Melo.

It's obviously hard to predict what will happen, but I do think that if Melo stays his course.... then NY and Dallas are the two teams to be talking about. Melo won't commit to signing an extension with anyone but NY and Cuban is the only owner risky/rich enough that has a good enough team to semi-reasonably justify a rental. So.... if Denver does indeed trade him (and I think they'd have to be stupid not to), it wouldn't be hard to imagine a trade along these lines happening in the future.

This is true, can't deny that. But circumstances change... so we'll have to see. They have a new owner now and a new CBA is upcoming.... which really makes everything unpredictable to begin with. If the league issues a hard cap, then no... I can't see a Chandler resigning. If they make it financially easier on the owners and issue a soft cap.... it's a much more reasonable situation then .

Cuban has stated he'd be willing to "give up the farm" for Melo. Part of the reason Chandler was originally acquired this summer because of his exp contract, he'd be useful in a trade. Obviously, their opinion of Chandler has changed, but....

Changed enough to retain Chandler and a young prospect who hasn't played this season instead of receiving a super star? I don't know about that. I don't know what the "farm" includes.... but I'm pretty sure that both Beaubios and Chandler are near equal as far as how "untouchable' they may be to the Mavs. If a superstar comes along to pair with Dirk, and the Mavs have a starting quality center to replace Chandler with.... I think Cuban does that trade. Essentially.... a double double center and a young prospect for a superstar is what the trade comes down to.... and Dallas has a starting quality center to replace Chandler with in Haywood.... who averaged a double double last season in Washington. I'm pretty sure Cuban makes this trade

Dal, NJ, Chi or wherever it is, it just doesnt matter. The title of this thread killed any chances of us getting Melo. Killed by Karma. :(

The title of this thread was made in jest (the BWAHAHA kinda gives it away)...reverse karma. That or maybe, despite my "rah rah" backing of Melo to NY I really don't want him here? Hmmm.

Anyone see what I did just here as well?

Be careful you are perilously close to the Grandfather Paradox which could make the entire board vanish into an alternate dimension.

In the end, I believe Denver will hold onto Melo. Donnie is smart enough not to overpay. Most teams will not trade for a player that has his heart somewhere else.
