We can't even throw in many 2nd rounders or cash since most of that is gone. No way we can get a signficant piece this year.

Instead of trading distant picks or whatever little assets we have for a quick fix or player that is not gonna make a huge difference, we need to just bit the bullet. Any deal we make will probably hurt us down the line. Just save up and maybe we'll have more to work with next year.

1. I've seen a few people mention that the Knicks have a slight shot to get Rondo because they can take back Gerald Wallace and Courtney Lee's contracts. Unfortunately, I don't think this makes a difference because if Boston is trading Rondo then they're all-in for a long term rebuild and won't need cap space to splurge on free agents for a long time. Considering they just traded for Wallace's deal and 2016 + 2018 1st round picks I'd bet Ainge has a long term plan.

2. As a result, I really doubt Houston has the assets to get Rondo too unless they make it a 3+ team deal and give up their future picks. I would guess that Boston simply wants picks and young players with high upside under team control for a long period of time. Ainge is smart enough to realize that the NBA CBA doesn't reward mediocrity.

Pull Amare out of the deal. then you can talk about this actually happening. No way the Celtics take that crappy contract. None. Thats ours for the next 2 years for better or worse (mostly worse)...

While C's not moving Rondo, they would take back Amare in deal n which they could unload longer deals of Gerald Wallace &/or Courtney Lee

Oh, so now the Knicks are targeting Rondo? Well, I'm targeting Kate Upton. And you know what? I still have a better shot at banging Kate than the Knicks at getting Rondo.

Nah, they would do that for us?

Awesome.

I bet they want picks too. C'mon, give up that 2018 first rounder for Gerald Wallace, Jimmy.

The floor will be spaced & Rondo will help Dwight offensively. I can't see how its a bad fit, its not like Rondo needs to take 15 shots a game to be effective.

its not about shots, its about the damn basket :) both of them need to have in their hands

But Harden can play off the ball. I just can't see how having your 2 starting guards both being able to penetrate at will + Dwight being down low is a bad thing. Especially this season where penetrating the lane is so valuable. (not saying it wasn't in the past)

You dont win titles with penetrations in the playoffs... Have you ever seen Harden in PO?!

More than the other sources, I belive Melo's desire and condition he has put on our FO to land Rondo for him to stay in Big Apple long term. Melo's free agency is the reason behind all this

I really dont see a deal happening for rondo, unless some other team is gonna be generous with their draft picks.

I do believe Bargs is here because of Melo though.

One thing I will say about Melo, he's pretty telling when he speaks.

It does if we could pull in other teams that could take on those players. Stat has been a nonstarter, that he is not now allows for some possible work to be done.

2015 is a better FA year; unless Lebron has promised them to become a Laker!! Btw, Lebron can also opt out in 2015. He has two years of player's option in his current contract

let's say the knicks have pau gasol right now. would you trade him for amare.

Gasol's knees and tendines arent healthier than Amar'e's... Pau would've been a better fit in a half court offense with Woody, just like Amar'e plays more efficiently in a MDA's system!!

Tyson/Martin/Cole
Gasol/Bargs/Tyler
Melo/MWP/Stevenson
Smith/THJ/Udrih
Prigs/Thomas/Murry

J.Hill/Kaman
Amare/Xavier
Kobe/Young
Blake/Meeks
Nash/Felton

Get a star or pay the guy off. Dont take back extra years just to dump the guy. We not that close to being good enough. We need two starters and one of them must be an impact player.

We need picks to give... The Kings, Suns, Magic, Sixers and Bobcats have picks in 2014

Let's see if our FO will get enough creative to make it a 3 or even 4 way deal!!

I think it's more about improving with real talent than it is any one player like Rondo.. Though Rondo of course would make the most sense for doing that. The team is 3 and 6 and Melo looks like he's by himself out there. Melo is also a soon to be sought after free agent. I don't think Melo needs to spell it out to them that this current plan continued without change isn't going to give him a lot of basketball incentive.

That makes no sense to do. That's the old knicks way of taking on longer deals just to make a trade.

Only thing is you're pretty much conceding failure this year if you do it because of Rondo's injury and recovery. But if there is a PG who can make Melo get in line the way Billups did it's Rondo. But Rondo is pretty aggressive with his teammates also... I don't know. I'd do it in a a heartbeat and I'd take back Wallace and Lee also because at least they're bodies who can play.
