See, Stoudemire didn't make the All Star team this season, so he decided to sabotage it by overshadowing it with news of his buyout. Similar to what Alex Rodriguez did in 2008 when he announced his free agency during the World Series.

Only difference being that A-Rod (steroids aside) was one of the 2 best players in his sport and a perennial MVP candidate playing for the preeminent franchise in the league at the time of his little stunt. Stoudemire is debatable as a top 100 player at this stage in his career and has been a non factor for 3.5 years on a team that is horrible.I don't think that many people were really moved by it.

It doesn't matter. It happened in New York. Go to any local news outlet and tell me what you see first, his buyout or last night's All Star Game?

The media pretends to care about knicks fans but when it comes to this atrocious signing it's all "he was a true professional who loved his team" ... Dude had tunnel vision on both ends, was constantly talking up his game, making excuses, and didn't make anyone better.

The ship sailed on that with those ESPN nudes.

Underrated post.

Honestly.. If we don't get another legit alpha dog this summer... trade Melo at all cost

i don't think that's the right mindset to think with but this summer will be one of those, **** or get off the pot situations. if the lakers make out better than the knicks do in free agency, say signing love and dragic, trading melo to the lakers for their lottery pick (outside of the first 2, i would think they wouldn't trade it if it were top 2) and randle if we're greedy enough, wouldn't be a bad call.

say the knicks get the first pick, a trio of Okafor/Randle, with a mudiay, russell,or johnson is not a bad way to start the new era.

Have the numbers been released on the buyout? Just curious how this affects the cap moving forward. Trying to get a gauge at percentage of salary as the Bucks are likely about to buyout Larry Sanders as well.
All posts are my own opinion.

Goodbye stat you'll be missed...you were on your way to MVP before Melo destroyed the Knicks. You do not deserve this Melo led 10 win team.

Amar'e Stoudemire, Knicks Agree Upon Buyout

A few weeks ago, there was talk Knicks wanted to keep Amare for the remainder of the season ?
It was even mentioned Knicks may offer a new contract to Amare next summer. I guess it was BS ?

It's probably the right thing to do for Amare (give him the chance to play for a championship contender like San Antonio or Dallas) but I wouldn't have complained if the Knicks kept him in case they had enough money left next summer and there was a possibility of retaining Amare for a couple more seasons at a decent price for a reserve player, a role player (that's what Amare is at this point). I think he could be a valuable player for a playoff team, he could give you 20 good minutes off the bench. I don't care and it's not a big deal but I probably would have kept him if I was in Phil Jackson's shoes.

Knicks seeking to make more trades

By Marc Stein and Ian Begley | ESPN.com

The New York Knicks are actively trying to trade veterans Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani as part of their ongoing roster clear-out, according to league sources.
But sources stressed to ESPN.com that trying to trade away Amar'e Stoudemire is not part of the club's current plans.

But sources maintain that the Knicks are not looking to move Stoudemire and, at least for now, intend to keep him for the rest of the season. That could lead to Stoudemire, who has relished his time with the Knicks despite the club's struggles, re-signing with them over the summer at a reduced rate. The 32-year-old former All-Star, who has been plagued by knee injuries in recent years, is playing out the final year of his current contract worth $23.4 million.

I imagine the same way it would've affected it had we let him just finish out the season with us and let him expire.
