On the defensive side of the ball is where my question lies. Is he going to ever be able to guard 5s in this league and not get bullied around. I understand he is young and might get bigger but if he gets too big it might hurt some of his strengths which is his quickness. Or is he always going to be a 4 and just have terrible perimeter defense? I am just trying to envision where he will be playing in 2-3 years.
I think so. He's going to fill out a little bit more naturally as well as continue to put in the work in the weight room. It may take some time but I think it will happen. We have to remember how young this kid is. Also I think him being better than expected last year has maybe been a bit of a curse as the timetable of our expectations for him has gotten a bit out of wack. He was viewed as a 4 year project and people were ok with that but then we saw the shot blocking and rebounding in his rookie year and thought he would be the finished article sooner. I don't think there's any shame in a learning curve but we're obviously desperate for a homegrown young franchise player and so we want him to grow up faster than is reasonable.
If Gobert can play the 5, don't know why KP can't

That's an offseason thing
Last yr he worked on being a guard
Now it's time for him to work on being a center

Judging on how his handle looked in some games, that guard thing needs work too.

Re: Porzingis Unicorn #3 Thread
I think the worst thing that could have happened to him was Hornacek helping him realize he doesn't need to do anything...he's 7'3'' with an unblockable shot. I think this will hinder his....I don't know....drive....to learn new things. He also seems to like to play like a guard, not a big man.
Just turn around and shoot all day? If that's the case, then that's fine, but he needs to make that shot wet.
He's come out and said this is not the way he likes to play, he likes to catch and shoot, cut and dunk, team game you know, **** like that, and imo is doing it because the offense is structured around certain individuals.
I really hope next season we get to see him run with his boys and see what he's like when he's playing from a happy place. It's one thing to be young, loose, having fun, playing the way you want to play and losing, but still learning, and it's another to be on this kind of team with others who you must listen to because of the pay scale, not play the way you enjoy playing, not share the majority of your minutes with the guys who you have fun playing with, and on top of that not even be competitive.....what would be your purpose? That's not fun at all.

He needs work on everything. Well at least he will have a long summer (if the tank works)

I wonder what they go over in practice. Leslie Jones would probably be a better defensive coach then Rambis.

This.
When people say KP deserves criticism just like everyone else on the team, this is my response. It's one thing to critique his game, but I'm not about to blame him for any amount of losses or dysfunction in the offense. The Knicks need to put him in a better situation to develop and that's what trading Melo is all about.

I've never said he couldn't. I've got no problem with it whatsoever.

I wouldn't say it was a no show in the sense of previous times where everyone was saying he disappears completely. He was active, but tried too much, forced things and took all kinds of wrong decisions on offense. A lot of shots just weren't good. Or rushed. I hope he learns from it, but it was ugly to watch.

Re: Porzingis Unicorn #3 Thread
The Knicks should trade KP to the Celtics for a first round pick. At this point KP will be better off in Boston and the Knicks will get a high draft pick, right? Doesn't Boston have some other teams pick? And Knicks will still have their own.

His consistency is not great, to say the least. He played an amazing first quarter last night, and went downhill fast after that. I have a feeling he hates playing on this team at this moment. The rumors, the roster, coaching, everything contributed to that, but hopefully it's temporary. He is still the future of the team.

this sounds dumb. Dude is a second year player and he is happy to be on the team. Losing wont change that. Stop coming up with excuses on why he had a bad game. You a Mavs fan that rides KP to much. Now its KP hates being on the team when he sucks. smh. let me guess he is happy when he plays well. so I guess KP is bi polar now.
