Not really hoping for much here. Would rather give Melo the Marbury treatment, rather than take on a bad contract or let him go for free.
First thing will not happen.

Exactly, can you imagine how awkward it would be if he's still here on opening night? He knows that the organization wants nothing to do with him at this point

It's their own damn fault for giving Anderson all that dough. Now they're stuck with him and are goink to have to trade Ariza and probably Gordon to get the necessary assets to entice us to make this deal. Maybe we can enlarge to include Lee.
I think people don't give Ryno any respect but the guy is still an asset being a 7 footer who can hit the 3 ball and hit it at a nice clip. He's a little overpaid for what he does but he can help a lot of teams. We just don't need him for what we're looking for but I'm sure there's some teams out there that he could help, shy he helped Houston last year for sure.

Re: Melo Trade Thread #? - We all know nothing
The Rockets also have the rights to Zhou Xi, a 7'2" young center.
"The 21-year-old (although there’s been some Mutombo-esque rumors of his true age) Zhou is coming off a season in the CBA in which he averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and a steal per game, and he shot 55.8 percent from the field. He also showed as a capable three-point shooter, knocking down 36.4 percent from beyond the arc in a little over 1 attempt per game. He also shot almost 72 percent from the free throw line, and his shooting prowess could find him a place in a Houston rotation in need of some talent and additional range in the front court.
He’s also a skilled shot blocker, has a high basketball IQ, and can run the floor, but the obvious question mark is can he handle the physicality of the NBA? Zhou’s slight frame will be a huge liability banging inside, and he’ll need to pack on some serious muscle and man-strength to avoid being pushed around.
Luckily though, it shouldn’t be anything a professional strength and conditioning program can’t fix, and Zhou has the height and the skills to make him an intriguing option. The Rockets could really use another promising young player in the pipeline, and Zhou’s development will be something to keep an eye on if the Rockets do, in fact, manage to get him over here this year."

Re: Melo Trade Thread #? - We all know nothing
I hope if it is Houston that we get the rights to Hartenstein or Qui in the deal. Give me both, Anderson, Long and 2020 1st and I will take it at this point. Anderson is on an awful deal but with this run and gun team we are putting together he can fit and only has 2 seasons left. Harteinstein and Qui are both young, high upside, stashable talent and we get a decent pick if this all falls apart for Houston.

Aren't Harkless and Leonard sort of trash?
Harkless is pretty good. His TS% was .570 and has been increasing. He's a net positive on defense. Basketball reference says he's most similar to Tom McMillen, Frank Card and (lol) Phil Jackson.
Leonard had one good year 2 years ago and is still young but he probably isn't that good. We'd be taking on his contract to make this deal work. But he's much better than Plumlee who we just cut so a net positive.
Leonard and Harkless aren't exactly guys I'm jumping up and down to get to replace Melo. Especially Leonard with all the bigs the Knicks have, that he's not good and that he's overpaid and for a while.
