People are really becoming too technology dependent. Maybe it’s time to pick up a newspaper again or have the kids go outside amd play. Turn on your tv or listen to the radio again.

We will survive.

This actually is giving me plenty of business ideas...

Its funny that you said this cause, I while I am not in favor of it, I said people will have to go to the Library again etc and read books instead of having it easy thats a good thing.

I refuse to read E Books or stop reading physical papers. I just cant do it.

That’s how I feel. People don’t know how to do **** anymore. I bet they don’t even remember where the Library is located or how to go in there and look up what they need.

I’m a book reader too iLL. One of my hobbies is collecting Harlem Renaissance literature.

You dont have to bet. I know I don't go to the library. There is no reason for me to go to the library when I can get what I need from the internet. The only time I went to my local library was a few years back when I was doing a survey of property and needed to know how the house was originally built and what was added on later.

Welp, I guess people will have to go to the Library more.

We will survive.

well my question is why do people even need to go to the library ? I meet isnt reliance on new technology what helped us advance the past 5000 years ? We longer need to hunt because we learned to grow crops. Now we have machine that can do most of the farming for us. We longer need to waste time hunting beavers to make fur clothes because we can just grab a north face jacket off the rack at the store.

And when that tech is taking from you. You will be the chicken with the head cut off, and dont know what to do. We have a slew of people who would not know how to find a location without a GPS and you think that's a good thing? that does not make man smarter, it actually makes him dumber.

again, what does the library have that you cant get from the internet ? I work in banking compliance industry. I research tons of crap everyday. I just cant imagine that I can get what I need from the library. I also cant imagine getting through my MS Taxation program if I had to rely on just books from the library to do my research. I did go to the school library alot but that was only access the school's lexisnexis subscription.

Technology does not make a man smarter, it just makes him more productive. Do you not agree that is a more accurate description ?
You are right. Most people including my self don't know how to use a map, but at the same time out of my 12 years of driving, I only had maybe 1-2 incidents where my GPS wasn't working and I got totally lost. To me the time that I saved on not having to read maps was worth it compared to the inconveniences of getting lost 1-2 times over 10 years.

You are totally missing the point. You never want to become fully dependent on technology to the point that if it's taken away you cant function. Convenience comes at a cost as well. The common Man has started to use less of his brain function, Because he has allowed technology to do so much for him. So yes ,Man is Dumber in many ways. The reality is people should know BOTH worlds...but sadly most especially those who are very young, only know one world. If that one world crashes....then people will be **** out of luck.

Lets just all go back to the days of no internet or just leech off public wifi when you need to go online. It might actually be a good thing for society.

I don't know if Im missing your point or Im just not getting your point. You pointed out that people don't even know how to use a map any more and I said I agree that I don't know how to use one my self. I also pointed out that at the same time I have only gotten totally lost 1-2 times over the past 10 years. And I am not sure if understand what you meant by when the technology is taken away from you. Are you saying those incidents where I may not have my tech available or when sht hit the fan and the tech is no longer operational ?

Another example I can use is how much I rely on Excel or a digital calculator. I admit that I probably rely on those so much that I probably don't even know how to calculate simple math off the top of my head like 5x5x. At the same time, I can build a complex financial model with formulas and vba codes. Does excel make me stupid or more productive ? Another example is I hate working off of paper copies. My hand writing also sucks. If I don't have my laptop with me then I'm probably not going to be too productive at work. At the same time, I don't know if it is possible to do my work and answer over 100 emails a day without a laptop.

My sisters can’t write in cursive....
People can’t perform simple math. Read a map(a real one). Tell time from a clock. Fill out simple paperwork. Address an actual letter. Write a check. So many simple things are gone.

We are getting dumber.

I said You missing the point cause you trying to provide a counter argument to why tech is useful or saves time. I never said it does not save time, or should not be used. My point is full reliance on it is never a good thing in alot of cases. How smart really are you, if you cant do simple math in your brain anymore. That's my whole point right there in a nutshell. So yes man is becoming dumber. If someone took away a calculator and you cant do simple math, that means you cant function without it and is **** out of luck if you had to calculate something very "simple" . Its why I said, BOTH worlds need to be understood.

I mean does your sister know to wipe her ass after she shts ? Shes not at the point where she literally cant survive without technology right ? I'm not saying I totally disagree with you. I think it is more than I disagree with the examples that you provided. To me, a clock is a human invention. A check is a human invention. I don't agree that just because you don't know how to use one human invention because you learned another one that that make you dumb. Would you say that someone that knows how to use an abacus is smarter than someone that uses a digital calculator ? Or am I dumber because I only know how to use a faucet and not know how to pump water out of a well ? I think my point is I think we are simply replacing one technology with another technology.

I totally agree with you on this when it comes to the internet. While I believe that overall technology makes us much more productive, I aslo think that when it comes to the internet people waste so much time on things that dont provide any value. But this is more about a debate on addiction.

We in the information era, yet it seems society is dumber.

It really should be called the entertainment era since it seems that really drives most people use of the internet.
