or everyone could just stay where they are. but if you were to leave, you're not leaving to become a net. and you're probably not leaving to play on l.a's 2nd team while lebron is playing for the 1st one. you'll get more attention playing here then anywhere else.
We've been using that "why come to NY" sales pitch for 2 decades now, and it's never worked. I don't know, maybe this time it does. We'll see.
The one pitch we've never used is "come to NY because we're actually good". I have a feeling this one would work better.
we had space for 2 maxes once in our history. it failed that time but it did work for miami. i don't know if it's possible to have space for 2 maxes and be that good. most of the guys who make the clippers and nets decent have to leave for them to have 2 maxes. if those guys want to be on good teams they'll just stay where they are. which is very possible. my only point is, if you're gonna choose to leave, you're not gonna be a brooklyn net.
and if nobody great comes, just tank again.
It worked for Miami because they had Pat the Rat, who is an all time great salesman, and he had multiple rings to show off, and was coming off of one just a few years back with Wade.
What championship pedigree can the Knicks show, other than Perry who was a low level assistant back in 2004. Wherever Durant ends up, he needs to win for his legacy. If you're Durant, are you really putting your legacy in one of the worst organizations in the sport, just because it's in NY? That's a tough sell.
I can see Kyrie doing it, because he doesn't have much of a legacy. But Durant is playing to be one of the best players of all time. Putting all that into NY can backfire on him, and you know that.
