Last year to move from 5th to 3rd cost the mavs a top 5 protected first round pick, this year to move from 8th to 3rd fans only want to charge the hawks a no.10 pick and possibly some second rounders? Seems like a bit of a discount to me.

Yeah, Ingram still has potential and Brown isn't bad but, I wouldn't say that was a 3 person draft. Arguably Jamal Murray, Pascal Siakam, and Malcolm Brogdon are just as good as if not better than those two, and none of them are stars

I'd be willing to bet the 2nd best player in this draft doesn't go top 3, or even top 5 is really my point I guess

Who in the draft would you take at 8 & 10 without feeling like you should of just kept the 3rd pick though?. i really cant see anyone available there that have potential star DNA. even if you didnt like RJ or morant im not the biggest morant fan either but i dont think you can look at either of those guys seasons and not feel either one has a chance to be a all-star in the future.

You never know who drops. Happens every year. A guy who’s supposed to go way higher in the lottery starts falling.

What if teams are scared off by Garland’s injury and he’s there at 8?

Kevin Porter will be this years drop, At the beginning he was the projected 5-10 but with attitude and maturity he'll be in the 20's.

Trading down isn't crazy, depending on the deal. If you can gain an asset and still walk away with Culver or Garland, that avenue should be explored.

So should trading out.

I'd take Sekou and Clarke or Porter with the Hawks picks.

White might be a better pro than Garland and it's too bad we didn't get to see more of the latter to evaluate. White is a three level scorer with a sweet, compact stroke, is pretty quick, twitchy and athletic. Not to mention he's a crafty ball handler and a good facilitator for his size at 6-5.

Maybe for Culver and another good asset. We'd need to see what that is, of course.

The safer way and, I would argue, the best way of using this pick is to acquire the best talent, which is Barrett. We need more A-list young talent with high upside. This is our chance to get that with Barrett. Especially, if we end up getting shut out in FA, which is not a complete impossibility by any stretch. I don't care what these talking heads in the media are saying.

I've also read scouting reports that believe Barrett and Knox would compliment each other on the court at the 3 and 4.

I find it really interesting that people are so confident that Culver and/or Garland will be anything but remain skeptical on RJ.
When I say people, I’m talking in a general sense (some analysts, Twitter, YouTube, etc) not so much here.

I would argue the best use of the pick, by far, is trading it for AD.

I don't understand why anyone would want to trade the 3rd pick to move back. The #3 pick has resulted in many more booms than busts throughout the years. The majority of the time you get a player who can at least be a 2nd or 3rd option on a championship team. Based off everything we know about Barrett and Morant the likely is very low that they will bust. Knicks better not waste a golden opportunity of drafting 3rd. We haven't had a top 3 pick since Ewing and that says a lot to why the Knicks have had so few homegrown talents over this dark era.

Short of a future unprotected pick there is no reason to trade back in the draft. That's just inviting failure

I get your point. I just have this feeling that if we blow all this money and draft picks on AD and not only will we get swindled in the trade but something will happen (injury or premature KD breakdown?) or won't go well in terms of chemistry to ruin this attempt at relevance.

Moreover, I'm not sure I would enjoy watching three new all-star level players come to the Knicks in one fell swoop. This would be worse than Miami with Wade, LBJ, and Bosh. At least the Heat already had their leader in Wade. Lebron neatly fell in place under Wade and Bosh, to his credit, took the back seat willingly and did the other things necessary. I'm just, personally, not comfortable with it. I'd rather develop our own core and then add the missing pieces at the right time.

This is 100% how I feel about it. I don't think Perry will do it since he’s been preaching. I think our young guys and if we hit in FA is enough to begin to win.

This.

Only way I an trading back is if I am certain I could get a good lottery chance for a top pick in the 2020 draft.

This picking 3 stuff is boring

So sad for stable franchises that do things right to have so little drama over the years

I doubt this would ever happen but I think Barrett would cook him. He has that alpha mentality and is crafty at finishing.

AD for #3 sure in a heartbeat, unfortunately it will take much more to do that and if we were to fully strike out in free agency after that we’d have AD and a bunch of scrubs and so AD walks after 1 year.

I guess I’m trying to say it’s not as easy as saying trade it for AD. Without understanding everything else that may be a huge backfire.
