As deer-in-the-headlights as Obi was (especially early in the season) he's already done and shown more than either Frank or Knox has so agreed.

based on what metric, his career high is like 12 points and he sucks on defense and shot 30% from 3 at an older age than frank and knox who both shot over 40% 3 last year and had higher scoring games despite falling completely out of favor with the organization and rarely playing

I hope like hell he will end up better than those guys but I don't see how he's already done or shown more. Knox was a rookie of the month once and scored 31 points. He even had a 19 point game under Thibs who doesn't like him. Hell even Frank dropped a couple 13 piece bucket meals lol

Knox has one of those meaningless youngest player to put up specific stats that put him with Bron. He showed more promise his rookie season than anything Obi showed till the playoffs. Maybe if he wasn’t in the “ eat what you kill” environment he coulda been a decent role player

The eye test metric that says "this guy can be a player in the NBA". Frank and Knox? Not so much by the fact that one's a wuss and the other appears clue-luss. IMO the boat on both Frank and Knox has sailed. Obi? His boat is still in dock being worked on.

And before anyone says anything, I was NOT a fan of Obi before the draft and was one of the main guys calling him out and lambasting him early in the season.

Yes. If someone can’t see that Obi will have an NBA career then they’re just relying on stats to the detriment of the eye test which clearly showed improvements in his game at the end of the regular season and in the playoffs where he was NOT a deer caught in the headlights. IOW, Obi wants the spotlight, but he had to make adjustments to his game

Knox and Frank have the same type of weakness. That milquetoastedness in their game. When you don't have that great natural talent to get by with (as neither Frank nor Knox have) you cannot also be blase when you're on the court. You need to go above and beyond and take the bull by the horn instead of watching the bull and saying "hi bull, how's it going?".

I would much prefer an absolute a-hole off the court that goes all out and does it it takes on the court on my team than a "great guy" that just ho-hums it on the court. And in the NBA you need to make the opportunity not wait for it to be given to you...so don't want to hear about this guy or that guy not be given a chance.

with all due respect I am using my eye test metric and in that metric he was terrible last year and you guys are hyperfocusing on one playoff game where he had a couple good plays while ignoring the parade of blunders and glaring weaknesses he showed all season. Even his summer league wasn't that impressive to me as he was bodying a bunch of non-nba players and still shooting below average from 3 on terrible shot selection

I'm really hoping all his hard work in the summer pays off as Thibs said he and IQ worked on their game big time, but I'm staying grounded on this one until he consistently proves something in actual games

Didn’t you really like Obi in the draft? Now you are arguining he’s worse then Frank and Knox which is pretty harsh
Mavs
C: Horford | Goga | Paul Reed |
PF: Lauri Markkanen | Randle | Tucker
SF: Trey Murphy | Trent | Anderson | Simone
SG: Vassell | Trent | Livingston
PG: Spida | Mann | Deuce

Yeah and I'm arguing for Obi and I thought he was overrated in the draft.

That’s fine. My eye test differs from yours, but I do not think you can really assess Obi on his stats at this point. I respect the caution. I’ll go out on a limb and say he will have an NBA career beyond his rookie contract. It’s fine to wait and see though. History is on your side actually

This is the Lance F*ckin Toppin school of thought.

Which is either a sardonic put down of Obi's game or the latest Boys Gone Wild porno.

Start Simms or Obi at the 5. If Thibs start Taj, I’m ready to be combative lol.
