Sucks to see the team have such a let down coming off one of the most exciting seasons ever last year
CRASH OUT!
It’s not, though.
The team is bottom 10 in defense and is a below average rebounding squad overall.
Not sure how you can win a championship without either of those things being really well.
The team has enough personnel not to be a bottom 10 defensive team. CLE is able to manage a good defense with no real perimeter defenders.
BOS is on another level. That is just an elite build where you have great shooting, multiple ball handlers, and not a wink link defensively.
Im not saying we are top10 defensively but the scheme is rotten for the personnel we have.

The Cavs have been a good team longer than we have with nearly the same core. So they've had ample time to upgrade their coaching staff and stack their roster after a few seasons of trial and error. If Leon were smart he'd follow their blueprint by getting rid of Thibs and doing something with Mikal Bridges, our bench and our thin front court.

Re: PG: Who doesn't see this coming VS Cavs?
Let's talk about this for a second. We know defensively our weakness is brunson and KAT. So is there a defensive scheme we can run more to not have them involved in every screen?
And yes this is a rhetorical question because there is an answer but then ask yourself will our coach run more of that defense?
The answer is no.
Also there is no reason this team should struggle so mightily vs the top teams.
That suggests that teams no we don't really run much schedule offense and they can take away our strengths to easily and don't have counters. Our counters to teams putting a small player on KAT is just post ups from 20 feet away. Our counters to teams trapping Brunson is to run more P&R and force brunson into tough doubles.
I'm not saying we are better than CLE and BOS. But the gap in talent isn't that large where we are getting our doors blown off. Scheme is rotten. That is coaching to me.

That tells you the team isn't good enough. These are all 20 pt + blowouts. No play, no scheme can fix that. They simply aren't good enough. And that's okay to admit.mpharris36 wrote:dakomish23 wrote:NoDopeOnSundays wrote:We're averaging 105ppg in the 6 games against those 3 teams, on the season we average 118ppg.
The coach is a joke.
NDOS theory really gains some traction after games like this
we shouldn't be this uncompetitive vs the top teams. Something has to give.
THe defense sucks but the offense isn't good either vs those top teams either.

On the contrary. How can you beat everyone else but then get destroyed by the same few teams. It really is pronounced when you play teams on equal footing or better talent that coaching and scheme matter.
You or I can coach this team to beat Washington. There is too much talent to lose to those teams. Then a team like DEN who's hot right now why do we look so good vs them? Why do we look so good vs MIL?
I'll tell you because our "shell" defense works vs them and they can't take advantage of what our defense is designed to give up.
Schematically we don't adj to different teams...that is an issue and has always been a issue of thibs coached teams.

“Even if we Lose in the second round, since Spree and Camby”… That was 26 years ago dawg, tf??? I’ve been watching the Knicks for 31 years, I didn’t trade 5 first round picks and a crowd favorite in Donte 26 years later to “might as well enjoy”
The goal is to win a ring, not go back to where you were and instead regress. The goal is to be win and be in the history books, not enjoy the ride… lol tf?? Do you really think the Knicks can even get two games against the Celtics?
Makes me think people like you are happy to just settle in life, rather than be great
Every single championship team in the last 30 years (other than Kawhi’s Raptors) was a runner-up a couple of times before eventually coming through. Dirk beat the cHeat first, Shaq and Kobe won in their fifth year together, hell, even Jordan didn’t win right away. These Tatum-Brown Celtics had been trying for years.
To me it’s just ridiculous to see you all pouting, crying and mourning the loss of Randle’s loser-identity as if this team had a losing record. Dude, they don’t, this is the fourth-best team in the league already.
Don’t be so sad.
(And on a personal note: If you knew me and what I’ve been through, you’d know I don’t settle.)
This isn’t about being sad, it’s about having some f’n pride on the court. You think Spree, Camby, Ward, Thomas, Houston, LJ, Ewing, Childs or anyone of the rest of that ‘99 team would go out there and get their ass kicked in one game? Much as less MULTIPLE games in the same season to the other three top teams in the league? You’re proud of being fourth best and getting your ass handed to you when there’s clearly changes that can be implemented in game but the coach refuses to do it? No one is mourning the loss of Randle, but the stakes and expectations have been raised by trading five picks and two big rotational pieces to bring in more talent. You’re proud to make it back to the same exact round we did the last two years and lose in lesser games even though we’ve upgraded the roster, yet the coach continues to coach like it’s 1999? The Cavs only made one change prior to the Hunter trade, and that was a new coach, did you honestly think prior to the year starting that they were better than us? No, so the product on the court is putrid.
I don’t know you, but you’re proud to cheer for a team that is FOURTH BEST even though you have the capability to be THE BEST?? I don’t know about you homey, but the goal is the ring, and anything less than an ECF appearance is a wasted year. If you don’t progress, you will never attain greatness, and the team’s expectation rose to a level of excellence with these trades. I cheered for the team when we absolutely sucked at 17-65, they had heart but no talent. This team we have now has talent but no heart. I don’t know you, but you don’t know me, my goal in life in all facets is greatness, not accept defeat and lose by 30 because “we’re the fourth best team”
You’re talking about “progress” but what you seem to mean is “instant success”. This team has incorporated two new starters and has been playing without its center, so again, it is pathetic what you expect. This season is a progression already, the winningest season in thirty years through 55 games, iirc.
Go ahead and demand excellence, but it certainly sounds very childish to me.

^ it’s just wack that we haven’t even been competitive in any of these games against the elite 3 of the nba except that one where the cavs came back on us early in the year at msg. hard to feel real optimism about our chances/future outlook of this core given how much we gave up to make this group possible

Weren't we up like 9 going into the 4th qtr on the road vs OKC? Then the team just ran out of gas because Thibs played no bench in that game.
We were on a 9 game win streak and took it to OKC early...but since that game against OKC we haven't had a competitive QTR vs any of the top 3 teams.

How much was given up though? Randle, DiVincenzo, Bogdanovic and picks for Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges. Hart for Reddish. The OG trade was one of the best in franchise history. I would do all of that again. I mean what do y’all even want? This is year 1. Now give this time to grow ffs.

I've been watching basketball since the mid 60s. In all those years, I've never seen a delta so large between one team and the Knicks. And the Knicks are a top 5 team. It's beyond WOW....

We still haven't seen a complete healthy Knicks squad against any of the elites this year. I'll hold my judgement until we do.
No Hart, OG game 1 after injury and working his way back and no Mitch...against the # 1 seed. Yaaaa not gonna get carried away here.

its a combo of factors us not having Hart (and Mitch to a lesser extent) and OG looked mad rusty and non impactful that hurts.
We are also in year 1 of this new roster. Teams like the cavs core has been together for years and they have had chances to supplement the depth.
We need to run more matchup zone and switching defensively and that is something thibs just wont do. We can't play a standar "shell" drop if you want to run KAT at the 5. Simple as that. You can get away with it vs teams we are way more talented then but vs the top teams it gets exposed.

Cavs shot 11-13 84% with KAT as their primary defender. Every top contender we play, literally targets him. The guy is a cone.

Better at what? Outside shooting certainly. The rest is debatable. Defensively there is no debate, Mobley is in another stratosphere as far as impact defensively.
