During the game, I thought Thibs was worried he'd have a heart attack if the game were lost, so he was too anxious to send in the bench. Of course, you can't really tell by looking at him. But all the talk was he had to make the ECF to keep his job. Thibs has no other life besides basketball, so I'm sure keeping his job is incredibly important to him. That's why I think making him GM would be a win-win.

Of all the oft-repeated implausible ideas on this team forum, the suggestion of "rewarding" Thibs with the Vic Mackey treatment is the oddest.
This is a guy who has lived his whole life on the hardwood, who sustains himself on sweat off the players. This is a guy whose fundamental flaw is complete inability to look beyond this night's game, this quarter, the next minute, the next play. What is he going to do in a desk job requiring long term planning and big picture strategic thinking? Other than get fatally bored and frustrated, to the point where you'd worry for his mental health.
He has served you well the only way he can, please don't put such a curse on him. Just pay him off and let him "move to a farm", ie. go coach a Div II Podunk A&M somewhere out of the media spotlight.

I'm pretty against the idea that Thibs should play a role in organizing recruitment etc. Look at how he uses the bench. How the hell would that translate to assistant GM-ing?

I know that this isn't a charity but I don't think it hurts to keep Tom around.

Just me personally but BKlutch made me really think about how this dude's life is literally this. I feel empathy for him because if this gets taken away, what next? Oof....

Plus, I think he helped build this thing. That means something.

i love thibs like family, but if he ain't the guy it's whatever. just make sure we get the right person for the job. his personal life is not anyone else's responsibility when it comes to the business.

I hear ya. I hope Tom will be alright. I just try to keep in mind that there's a human behind this. Made me think about my aging parents and when their time to retire came. If this is all Tom has, that's rough.

At least Tom gets paid for the next 3 years tho. But I know money isn't everything..
