These guys taking discounts like spending $2k at the store and rounding up 50cents for charity. More of a PR stunt

No Brainer. You don't let talent walk for nothing.

Next up... hopefully we can extend Mitch at $14m per or thereabouts.

Teams don't sign a player for 4 years, 150 to trade them, they sign them for that kind of deal to keep them around for a while, so it's true, he's less tradable now, but NY has their key players all locked up now. Brunson, Bridges, OGA & KAT.

They could in theory, trade Josh Hart, who isn't making that much and Mitch with his expiring deal is certainly tradable. I'm not going to trash them for signing Bridges instead of exploring trades with him. I think that's a perfectly acceptable team building move.

It's not building anything. It's not team building. It's player appeasement by a front office run by a player agency.

Just don't do anything. Which essentially in every case since going back to Melo's extension the Knicks would have just been better off doing.

Run this team back next year with a completely crippled East with 2 of the best 5 players out for the year, and Giannis being old and surrounded by junk.

If it's more of the same then who cares. Why do you want Bridges until **** 2030, when he's 33 and a poor mans Wesley Matthews.

Jesus. You hate everything.

Bridges is a damn good player on a fair deal. There's a reason teams were offering 4 FRPs for him before we got him. People really don't appreciate this dude around here at all. It's been ridiculous the way people trashed him from before the preseason was even done last year.

I have long been questioning the whole "Knicks fans are the most passionate and knowledgeable fans" mantra out there. It gets worse every year.

You aren't even responding to my statement. It's not about appreciation or the insane picks we gave up. It's just good business. He's on a reasonable deal next year and this FO can't just live with that. Now we have OG making an absurd amount and Bridges for 1/2 a decade? Why?

Just play the **** season. If we get ousted by Cleveland or Orlando then why get tied to this guy for any reason? If we don't make a final next year with Tatum out and the Pacers stripped to the studs then why are you keeping this team around? It's like taking all the leverage you have as a front office and just urinating on it for no reason other than you're a clueless player agent LARPing as a basketball executive.

2 things happen

We make a final, great ... we can still offer him the most money. In a cap strapped league nobody is giving him this deal.

We get washed and **** him. This core is a bunch of bums and why in the world are we signing up for 5 more years.

Even dumber, you're pushing a 1/2 a decade of a guy who is 29 in a week and led the league in minutes 3 times. This has Wesley Matthews written all over it.

It's 3 yrs with a PO. OG is 3 more years. Brunson is 3 more years. KAT is 3 more years. This is the core. They committed to these guys. We are an ECF team. What's the problem?

Next year ends what changes? You think 31 in the off season Mikal Bridges is getting more than $38 million a year?

The player option is a 4th year. I'll FedEx you my left testicle in a pickle jar if he declines that.

Just no reason to do it other than you are a dumb ass player agent. If Bridges gets hurt. If we get completely washed in the playoffs. If Brunson has a Haliburton type injury. Then you'd just let him test free agency or just walk.

Locking him up is irrelevant. The propaganda around the discount is a trick for weak minded fools.

If Mikal had stopped 32 more drives, he would be #1 ahead of Derrick Jones Jr

Credit to Derrick Jones Jr, I didn't realize how good he actually is

In an offseason where he’d be the best SF on the market not named LeBron/Durant…there will be a team that would absolutely overpay for him. Teams were offering OG the max just last offseason and he’s always been injury prone before that. You seriously think the NBA Ironman who would be 29 next offseason wouldn’t see a similar number?

31? He hasn't even turned 29 yet. :D

If they waited until next off-season wouldn't Mikal have been eligible for a larger 5 year extension like OG? Mikal would have had all the leverage with the Knicks not wanting to potentially lose him for nothing after giving up so many draft assets for him which is basically a more advantagous position than OG had the team in.

OG reportedly received significant interest last off-season from teams like the Sixers who ended up giving a huge amount of money to an injury prone Paul George. I assume they would have been willing to throw a big number at OG if the Knicks didn't offer him the contract they did.

The Knicks now locked Mikal into a 4 year deal that is paying $9-10M less than OG. If Mikal walked for nothing the Knicks are still over the cap. Even if they were somehow able to get Mikal at $10M less per year they would still have to let Mitch walk for nothing just to have access to the full non-taxpayer MLE that guys like Levert, Schroder and rehabbing Lillard signed for.

Cheaper Mikal minus Mitch plus one of those guys at that level isn't really moving the needle imo. I have had issues with the way the Knicks have managed their books and assets over the past couple off-seasons but I don't believe gambling on an attempt to save a few more dollars on Mikal deal would be worth it.

The decision they have to make now is if and for how long they want to operate over or under the 2nd apron. They can still navigate the 2nd apron without feeling the full penalty of operating over it for a certain amount of years.

This entire post is crying about nothing. If you don't like the core they established... I don't know what to tell you. You're being negative for no reason at all. We were two wins away from the finals running 7 players and we still have all of them in a weaker conference with hopefully a better system/coaching staff. That part is still TBD but, even with minimal coaching the talent carried them to the ECF.

Weak minded fools don't use any logic when talking about this team. There is literally NOTHING wrong with Mikal Bridges as a player. The constant criticism of him is ridiculous at this point.

We have top tier two way players on the wings and two all stars along side them. With a solid glue player and bench. You wanna cry about what exactly?
