It’s not the first time, we’ve never fired the coach because a few players didn’t like their role. Obi, Grimes, Fournier, I’m sure there were others. We never cared about their opinions though we just shipped them out since that was easy. There would be nothing easy about a Mikal Bridges trade. Especially when he gives you an ultimatum of either me or the coach. Firing the coach would be an easier pill to swallow than needing to work a Bridges trade knowing his value is nowhere close to what you paid for him and you aren’t in a good place with the salary cap to begin with.

Lol when?!

adrian griffin was also on staff when coaches when they won multiple coty, didnt even last 1/2 season.

I don’t think Griffin had nearly as big a role or voice..

How was the front office going to find a replacement for Thibs while he was still the coach (huge betrayal and scandal if leaked) and before they interviewed the team & staff after the season to get feedback on what some of the problems were to fix? Now they seem to have a wishlist they are going through, besides some wishful thinking I don't see what the issue is yet. There's always some uncertainty in the process of finding a coach, it doesn't equal not having a plan.

free agent in 1 year and 1 month.

I thought last season was his early extension and this summer is when he has to sign something, no? Just checked he does have another season but if he didn't like the coach it means something. Still...the guy the Knicks traded their first round picks until armageddon for has a wee bit of power.

It's funny, the same people who are arguing he shouldn't have been fired are now arguing we should have gone behind his back to find his replacement before firing him.

They were clearly trying to hire Kidd right now. So don’t tell me now they were always planning on taking their time.

NoDopeOnSundays wrote:The whole drama over "no plan" thing is funny, as though half the team pulling a mutiny on the coach is something you can plan for. No, you react to that, and the proper reaction is to fire the coach. I get it though, needing to frame his firing as a mistake is the thing now.

largely agreed and will add, it doesn't have to be as extreme as "pulling a mutiny." it could just as easily be reaction to a collection of matching concerns.

the players who spoke individually could also be just as surprised as many of us on the outside.
RIP magnumt

thanks for everything, thibs.

This is a bit unrelated but the Kidd news--namely Dallas not allowing an interview-- kind of has me believe that Kidd was in on the Luka trade. I picture if he was opposed to it there would have been some real tension and major friction...you can't trade the face of the franchise and franchise player with the head coach opposing that and not knowing about that and have no fallout.

If say Kidd was trully unhappy about it and voiced that, this would have been the perfect opportunity to allow him to walk away....
