I have complete confidence that IF there is a trade to be made, DW will get it done and will pay a price that we can all live with.

Michael Kay (ESPN Radio) claims a source states the Knicks have made an offer to Denver of:

Chandler, Fields & #1 pick.

Denver rejects said offer..

Meaning once fatso's contract is off our books- thats 11 mil, plus if we trade AR for an expiring and a 1st rounder thats another 3 mil we clear and if Turiaf options out thats another 4 mil off, so theres Melo's max deal starting at 18 mil per yr.

Id bet dollars to donuts that Donnies deal to Denver is basically Chandler/Turiaf/1st rounder or AR and thats it.

And thats why I love Donnie because thats all we should be offering.

You guys that are saying Fields, Gallo and Chandler have no business sense or idea of negotiation, you dont offer all your assets when you're dealing from a position of strength, you make a firm fair offer which is what the above offer is and you stick with that.

I like playing hardball, but that is basically saying 'take these scraps or go away' - and to me, that comes across as a team that doesn't really realistically want Melo all that badly.... a team that isn't really taking it upon themselves to get him on their roster...a team that values it's current assets soo much that theyd be willing to sit back and let other teams possibly come in and do something or for something to go wrong between now and what i'd imagine theyd hope for in him going to free agency....you really think we're in a position to do that?. there's a difference between using leverage and being stupid...we're at an advantage right now clearly, but lets not push a good thing even further and risk losing it all....our current squad ain't that good......

Spot on. No one is saying we should give up all three of Fields, Gallo, and Chandler (except for Pharmcat). But just cause we have some leverage doesn't mean we have so much leverage that we can offer Denver a crap package like Chandler/Turiaf/1st in a take-it-or-leave-it manner. Guess what, they'll "leave it." And we actually end up losing more than that in the summer since we have to convince another team to take on Turiaf, give up our 2011 pick draft rights, and the right to use the MLE. And this all assumes that the CBA doesn't change much or the salary cap is where we project it to be. And this all assumes Melo isn't bluffing and doesn't get scared into signing an extension -- or similarly, Denver going on a strong playoff run and Melo deciding to stay.

Denver still holds the cards here, and people assuming we can just low-ball Denver is as naive of the situation as those who want to give up all 3 of our young players.

Giving them two picks and Gallo is more than generous.

What if the labor deal gets settled around the ASG or looks like it's heading that way and Melo starts getting real comfortable with waiting?

The Nuggets will be SOL and we can just let Chandler go or deal Gallo and keep Chandler, trade Mozgov/Turiaf and be near or at a Max to just offer Melo in the summer.

That way we can keep Anthony Randolph and our other assets, including picks, and use them to shore up our center position rather than just give them away to Denver in February.

Don't rule out an early settlement of the CBA.

I wonder if they'd consider Gallo instead of Chandler a better offer ... ?

Anyway, another thought I've been having is if there might be a team out there willing to give a 1st-round pick for Mozzie. I know it sounds crazy, but most analysts said he probably would have been a pick in the teens had he entered the draft. Factoring that in, plus the dearth of big men in the league, then possibly it isn't such a wild notion.

It doesn't even have to be fully decided. If they just put together some of the big points like soft cap vs. hard cap, salary rollbacks, maximum years and dollars. Just the big points, Denver loses A LOT of bargaining power. -Jitpal

It's probably mainly because they don't want anything to do with Chandler as a RFA. Solution? Recruit a 3rd team that likes Chandler and try to see if we can get back something that Denver likes.

This is good news, IMHO that Denver and NY are talking. This is a positive thing.

Who likes Gallo more than Denver, can we involve them in a 3 way, or like Jstudabaka said, maybe theres a team that Chandler will goto
