An underrated thing besides his injuries and my own concern (disclaimer: eye test only) about his D: he’s playing with the premier young player in the game.

I think that both boosts his numbers/floor some but also shows he’s not an elite player. He doesn’t seem to mix that well with Luka and is not necessarily even helping Luka much at all.

A truly good 2nd scorer type would probably already be thriving in an undeniable way next to Luka. We don’t see that if we’re being honest, and he’s not a spring chicken in age and growth.

At best KP is just maybe one of the better but much less impactful supporting guys next to Luka, and maybe you can safely say he’s second best. But it’s not by some big margin.

He should’ve been a defensive beast who can score but who dominates on D and inside. A Gobert with a 3 ball but he’s not strong enough for that.

The KP trade may end up looking good. Even the Randle signing is looking good.

Mills was still terrible and glad he is gone. Too much damage done for way too long.

Knicks can take KP back for moar Mavs #1 picks. Like in 2025 + 2027

Not really, not even the knicks were absurd enough to hire a mediocre coach to keep their star player happy

Pelicans putting their **** players on the market, they're not trading anybody of importance

not that they're not bad players but it's still a admittance of "we're not making the playoffs so keep bi & zion and sell whatever else we can". i'm sure steven adams is for sale too if someone wants him.

KP could retire tomorrow and that trade is still awful on every level.

If only we had done that. I was on board

Would you be down to trade Randle? 8-)

Wasn't I loud enough yet? I'd ship him out quicker than Kobe would've shipped out Bynum.

Last year I'd have paid to get rid of him and this year I still see merely an overused finisher that doesn't block shots, has a guard's FG% at best and turns the ball over more than bad PGs. The numbers are inflated, let's be real: inflated numbers.

I badly wanted Jerami Grant last year instead. He can shoot and block shots. He'd have been great next to RJ and Mitch, while Randle highlights their deficiencies instead of masking them. I'd still take many alternatives to Randle today. I said it in another post, I'd take most of what Sacramento could offer as small or big packages. Denver should still want him, maybe in a three team deal. NOP lol, Houston, Boston, Charlotte, Toronto, Cleveland, Orlando and so many more could make decent offers.

Short answer: definitely. What about you?

How? We would have traded away a broken retired player for 2 first round picks, it would have been a great trade if he retires tomorrow

Actually it would be a worse trade for us if he retires tomorrow because the Mavs are better without him and they might be able to get out of his contract with some kind of disabled player exception instead of having to eat the max contract

Smith hasn’t worked out, obv, we don’t know the picks but with Luka those picks are risky, and I’m still skeptical on Randle being a keeper.

But you still have to measure the trade against giving KP a Max or letting him walk for nada. Neither of those two were good options, then or in hindsight, so then the trade becomes a salvaging of some value, and in that way it’s not bad. With the jury still out.
