It is the State Snack of Utah. Officially. They codified it politically when they felt Iowa breathing down their neck.

In 2001, the state Senate of Utah recognized Jell-O as a favorite snack food of Utah, recognizing the fundamental basis of Jell-O in Mormon cuisine such as Jell-O salad, and Governor Michael O. Leavitt declared an annual "Jell-O Week." During the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the souvenir pins included one depicting green Jell-O.

People I've met from Utah are weird and I haven't liked them.

I had a particularly bad experience with one. Here's a true buzzardman story.

I was in basic training/infantry training back in the day, fresh out of HS and NYC.
In basic, like they do in gulags etc, they usually make a bigger, older guy, or squared away guy the platoon leader/squad leaders.
In those days, the platoon leader and squad leaders got their own room, everyone else in big old open bay 40 man room.
They just have some extra responsibility, etc - it's the drill sgts that make your life hell, get everyone in shape, all indoctrinated etc.

Anyway, this guy was like 24 years old, state wrestler, and just a total whitebread weird ass Utah guy.
He did not like NYC.
He did not like thebuzzardman being from NYC.
So this guy, who has like 50 lbs on my then skinny ass is starting to crack jokes at my expense - which is ok, for a day or two, but by day 7, he's really leaning into it and there's something not funny in it.
I realize he's going to give me a rep and it's going to stick.
There were all these white painted paving stones- the ones that used to be in the street way back when in Wingo's time, lining the paths.
Anyway, I got pissed enough that I went up to him and stated "Keep doing it. You can kick my ass, and do it now and make it count, because if you keep talking like that, one night, at random, I'm going to take one of those paving stones, go into your room while you are sleeping, and crush your f*cking skull in"
I was a little wound up then.
He was friendly after that.
Telling me his weird ass stories about the big White Castle festival they had, like I gave a f*ck.
He bitched about his knees and didn't go to the airborne unit we all to, the d*che.

It's possible I was a bit brash - more like sarcastic at times - only when the drills weren't around, I'm not stupid or suicidal
