If the Knicks could get Lebron from the Lakers for OG without giving up Brunson, Hart, Bridges, and Towns, would you consider it?

I think if the Lakers and Lebron mutually consider that a trade is what is best for both parties, then I feel the Lakers would go for a new all-star defensive stud wing/4 to pair with AD and maybe a role player or two from the Knicks.

What if this year is the only year you can make the trade?

Right now, our hopes are riding on this starting lineup staying healthy and winning a championship together.

How would the rest of the guys' egos handle Lebron getting all the glory for winning his 5th championship if we did somehow trade OG for Lebron?

How would Lebron drastically alter his role to fit with the rest of the guys and play with arguably the most close-to-perfect starting lineup ever?

Very few teams where a Lebron trade is feasible. Knicks would make sense here. A Warriors trade for Lebron could have happened last year if Lebron wanted it. The Warriors were ready to do it.

I think that's what they do. He becomes like a cheap "trade deadline" move.

Other than the Knicks trade one of their centers. If not now, eventually

Ok so I think I get it.

Just want to clarify -- what's the significance of February 24th?
- Is that the date when Warren's vet minimum deal gets reduced enough where we could add him without going into the 2nd apron?
- At that time, will there be enough cap room to add both Shamet and Warren w/o entering the 2nd Apron?

I see I'm late to the party, but, yes, assuming the Knicks don't dump Ryan, 24th Feb is when the vet min salary is reduced enough to fit into the Knicks's cap space. At some point - if the Knicks don't sign a vet then and delay - I didn't calculate exactly when, the vet min salary will be reduced enough to sign two of them. But that wouldn't be on 24 Feb.

I think there is some Aller magic where both Warren AND Shamet can be on the team but that part confuses me

Yes, NY is hard capped at the second apron, and can’t cross it at any time for any reason this season.

I haven’t done the math of when the proration of the vet minimum will get low enough, but February 24th is very realistic and would probably be right, or pretty close, if others have worked out the math. I would assume there’s some other work around like waiving Matt Ryan before his guarantee date on 1/10, waiting 2 weeks and then running 10 day contracts? I haven’t done the math, but it’s possible. Also, I think NY only did 2 weeks short of 14 before, so they might have 2 weeks remaining?

Yes. The Knicks do have 2 weeks remaining. And they could waive Ryan.

I don't think teams like the Knicks that are above the 1st apron can sign a player like Simmons that are making above this year's MLE ($12.822M?) but yes, he may be a candidate to be bought out.

Edit - I don't see many attractive options under $12.822 that may be bought for the Knicks to possibly sign.

Bagley? PJ Tucker? Joe Ingles?
Maybe Larry Nance Jr or Malik Beasley but I have not paid attention to them or their teams' performances this year.

Just asking about who can be brought out and if we are in line to actually sign a player after deadline.

But I'll do my elevator pitch for Ben Simmons. We're not asking him to be a top 3 scorer or even top 8. What we would be asking him to do is what we need, great defense, great rebounding and drive and kick. he won't ever have to shoot or dunk.

He just had his best game in years, coincidentally. 14/9/8 and guarding KD.

If you want to play 5-out, he will have to be able to shoot. He isn’t an actual basketball player in my book and clearly not a fit. I’m glad this is just someone’s random thought.

I don't know how we can pull it off, but we need to make a trade for Jay Huff from the Grizzlies

He has been under the radar

7 foot 1 back-up center
15.3 mpg
9.7 ppg
1.5 bpg
45.2% 3pt fg's on 3.8 3pa/g

Huff would allow us to play 5 out for all 48 minutes

or we gotta figure out how we can develop our own 3pt shooting back-up center who can shoot a ridiculous 45% from three on 4 attempts per game while getting a block and a half a game in just 15 minutes of play

it is too late for Sims and Mitch, so we gotta hope Huk can develop a three like Huff

I'm looking around the league. These legit 3&D centers are among a very select few

https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/best-3pt-shooting-centers

Huff is on his 4th team in 4 years as an undrafted player. He must have done something huge in the offseason to become a legit 3&D center.

Kessler / Towns
Towns / Hart / OG
OG / Hart
Bridges / McBride
Brunson / Sexton

I’m ready to sell the farm: Robinson, Achiuwa and whatever assets and rookies it takes. Can play Sexton instead of Bridges, too.

If Rose is still married to Thibs and his preferred system, the next trade target almost HAS TO BE a high level rim protector.

Kessler or Poetl (with a slight preference to Poetl because he is an all around Center with strong NBA tutelage and experience)

Way off in salaries besides anything else (about 12m ... 14m if you count in having to sign another vet min)

Return to New York Knicks
