Ok now we’re in the real playoffs. It’s nice to rip out Bostons heart for once. A kid who’s a Sox killer I love it. Boone is still an idiot thankfully he stayed out of the way tonight.

Cam being a potential ace under team control is what fans have been clamoring for. Let’s hope this kid’s future continues on this trajectory.

Re: OT: NY Yankees 2025 Season Thread (Hal is cheap, Brian is dumb)
Assorted thoughts:
1. Gil has pitched reasonably well since returning
Not dominating as he was at times last year but I feel pretty good about him. Warren less so but he can sometimes be decent. We absolutely have a chance to win game 1
2. From the internet boards....
Apparently, leading up to the game, some Sawx fans gave Schlittler's mother a hard time because he and his family are from Boston but are all (obviously) Yankees fans now. As the Michael Jordan meme says, he looks that personally and has been **** all over the Sawx after the he utterly ripped their souls out of their bodies:
-there is video of him saying "**** Boston!" while walking back to the dugout after an inning.
-Posted "drinking dat dirty water" on his Twitter account after the game
-Had this to say to Bryan Hoch...
Quote:
Cam Schlittler said it was "personal for me" to beat the Red Sox after hearing chirping from Boston fans. "There was a line they crossed a little bit. I'm a competitor. I'm gonna go out there and make sure I shut them down."
The boy is truly one of us now
3. The players need to execute especially those making the big bucks. Look at Judge. Dude in like 7-8 post-seasons I can barely think of one truly clutch hit he has had in a big spot. That's not on the coach.
However on the other side of the coin coaches control who is out there, when and how long they are out there etc.
The other team is desperately trying to win too and when the play on the field is relatively equal the manager making the better, smarter decisions is often the difference between winning and losing.
Game 1 was clearly a game Boone lost for us (like a few in last years playoffs too). But he did seem to learn from it. He only took Rodon out when he clearly was losing it and he rode Schlittler all the way through 8.
Now while I probably bring Schlitter out batter by batter in the 9th he was at more pitches than his season high and Bednar is our best bullpen guy.
He also rode his best hitters and made sure to get Goldy a pinch hit at bat. Also made proper defensive changes late innings.
I love Boone as a character guy. He is truly a players coach.
However he is prone to absolutely TERRIBLE in game decisions.
Most think it's the analytic folks pushing the buttons. That may have some truth to it.
But game 1 WS last year was another great example of way too many postseason examples.
Girardi was so much better in that regard.
4. Sox were a bit sloppy in the field no doubt.
But that hard hit bouncer to the 1st baseman ....I could have went either way on that one in terms of it being an error or legitimate base hit.
5. I do like that this Yankees team is a bit more than all or nothing like previous years.
That 4 run inning they strung together some nice bases hits without hitting a HR.
I really hope Judge-mental is finally going to simply stop being in his own head and just play ball.
I don't know if I have ever seen a guy so so good in the regular season be so so bad in the playoffs. Maybe A-Rod was the closest... except the year he was dating Kate Hudson and we won the whole thing.

Who’s the idiot who came up with this free swinging undisciplined game plan?

It really sucks that Judge becomes Joey Gallo 2.0 in the postseason.

Stinks that Weaver went from being an elite closer to a reliever that can’t be trusted in any situation.

Weaver was never a good reliever despite the fluke season that he had last year.

Even worse it’s the Mark Leiter yips now.

He felt like he had to swing for the fences at all costs and swung at ball 4, that set the tone for the rest of the game.

Nah Leiter is bad but Devin Williams made him look competent throughout the year

Nah man, he was carrying us last year, even during the postseason. It was Clay Holmes who was the real fluke. It sucks because his choking now is creating a bad ending to an otherwise good Yankees tenure.
His downturn seems to coincide with his injury but tbh, it’s not a real excuse now. If he’s hurt, he needs to get out of the way.
