Smith Jr. (4,463,640)
Knox (4,380,120)
Robinson (1,559,712)
+9,800,000 (#1 pick)

Dotson (1,618,520 NGTD)
Trier (3,551,100 TO)

Sign: KD to max contract

38,150,000+4,855,800+4,463,640+4,380,120+1,559,712+7,431,667+9,767,280+1,618,520+3,551,100+3,353,856=79,131,695=29,868,305 (cap space)

That leaves us more than enough to take on AD's contract.

Trade #1:
Zion, Dotson, Knicks 2021 1st, Mavs 2023 1st to NO for AD

After trade 1:
38,150,000+27,093,019+4,855,800+4,463,640+4,380,120+1,559,712+3,551,100+7,431,667+4,192,320=95,677,378=13,322,622 (cap space)

In order to now trade for Beal, since we are under the cap by 13,322,622, that plus 9,254,878 in outgoing salary would be equal to the 22,577,500 needed to trade for Beal (22,577,500 x 120% = 27,093,019)

Trade #2
Knox, Trier, Frank, 2021 Mavs 1st, Knicks 2023 1st to WSH for Beal

... I know its giving up a lot....I'd rather sign Kawhi than trade for AD....

I would rather no one comes and we stay with the kids and roll money for another year.

we were never trading him. he's a backup anywhere contending and, with his behavior here, what non-playoff team that couldn't provide consistent minutes would trade for him ? i don't think there will much of a market even as a waived player.

there's gonna be no ad trade which is smart of the pelicans. the lakers will be more desperate this summer and they'll have other people bidding. nobody really wants to go there. so if they don't get ad they probably get nobody. golden state will max klay. he's not even really on the market.

Kanter, DJ and Matthews are very large expiring contracts and for the Knicks to get any value out of them they have to find teams who are willing to give up a draft asset and have a similarly large expiring contract(s) to send back because the Knicks don't want to add any salary going forward.

There aren't very many if any teams in that position so it doesn't surprise me that the Knicks will be buying out a couple of those guys and maybe one will be kept because they serve a purpose like DJ to mentor Mitch but Kanter and Matthews have no purpose other than to aid in tanking because of their suckitude.

Any of them that get bought out will be on a team very quickly because they do have some value to different degrees off the bench of a team making a playoff push or securing their seed. The ones that do just don't have what the Knicks need to make a trade work and it's not really a failing of the Knicks FO if they can't.
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.

Sarcasm right?

So you're saying you wouldn't want Kevin Durant...Anthony Davis...and Bradley Beal. Thats an immediate contender, and way better than anything the Garden has seen this century.

Boban > Kanter, Bucks have no need for him (and he's possibly the worst fit for their offense), Kings would be stupid to go for him, Celtics have no need for him whatsoever, and Blazers also have no need.

yeah, i'm having problems seeing a fit. don't think okc takes him back even though he's loved there. they know more than anyone his defensive liabilities. i thought maybe a fringe playoff team like the nets or hornets. but the hornets got willy tho who is pretty much a young kanter. and he's not built for the nets offense. so i don't know.

yeah, they hate him in utah. he'll end up somewhere but i think it won't be as good as he thinks it will be out there for him. in other words, he might be spending a lot of time sitting on someone else's bench.

This is my "I feel very confident about this despite the acceptance that it's seems low odds at this point" prediction.

If the Knicks sign Durant and Conley makes it through the deadline, he's a Knick this summer. It makes so much sense, and it's actually a really good fit - even with Kyrie (though it would give you a little more flexibility on the 2nd max guy if you knew Conley was going to be the 3rd piece). Consummate floor general, one of the most underrated players in the league, efficient offensively, elite defender, in love with Fizadale, and NYC would absolute LOVE the guy. A hard-nosed maestro PG who is a big-time defender? The city would eat that up.

Only question, obviously, is health.
