RHODEY wrote:Lupica is on the Melo train, interesting take:

Another great bit from that article:

Mike Lupica wrote:- I was sitting with my friend Bob Ryan of the Boston Globe Wednesday night at the Garden, and as the Knicks and Celtics came down the stretch the way they did he said, "This is why I fell in love with NBA basketball in the first place."

This from one of the very best pro basketball writers of all time, one who has been covering the league for nearly 40 years.

It was about this time that Dave DeBusschere's son, Dennis, stopped by to say hello, smiling and saying, "So this is what it was like here."

People are making to big of a deal out of this. All he said was if he's traded, he's signing an extension with that team and he doubts he get traded to a team he doesn't want to go to.

I don't see him getting traded at all. This is Denver's best team by far since he been there and it doesn't make sense to trade him for scrap, just to say that they received something from him. That doesn't make sense. They will be better off finishing the season with him then doing some type of sign and trade deal like Miami and Toronto did just to get a pick. Gallinari, Fields, and Chandler for Carmelo isn't a good trade for Denver at all. Fields will be expiring the next season, Chandler said he doesn't want to play in Denver, and Gallo simply isn't that good.

I say New York and Denver finish the season without a trade for Melo and Carmelo will do whatever he does in the offseason. The man isn't going to the Nets just to switch teams. Don't the Nets have to play 1 more season after this one to move to Brooklyn? If Carmelo really wanted to go to Jersey, he'll accept his player option, then go the Nets via free agency following that season. There is no reason for Knicks fans to began to panic when it comes to Carmelo.

Very good post

Thanks and this article just came out, which supports my post.

Don't expect any team to get a Christmas wish and find Carmelo Anthony under its tree. That's because the Denver Nuggets are entering the next phase in their last-ditch effort to try to keep Anthony.

The Nuggets are close to having their full roster intact for the first time this season. And a source said Monday night that Denver has no desire to trade Anthony until it can be seen how the team looks with a full cast.

Forward Kenyon Martin, who has yet to play this season following offseason knee surgery, could return as soon as Wednesday at San Antonio or Saturday at Oklahoma City. And both guard Chauncey Billups, who has been out the past three games with a wrist injury, and center Chris Andersen, out since Dec. 3 with a back injury, are expected back for the San Antonio game.

The Nuggets are 16-10 despite those injuries this season. Before team officials pull any trigger and deal Anthony, they want to see what his mindset would be and how the Nuggets will look when they have a full cast.

Anthony has yet to sign a three-year, $64.47 million extension and could become a free agent next summer. The source said Anthony and Nuggets executives have yet to discuss any specific teams regarding where he might or might not want to be traded.

However, another source said Monday night that Anthony does not want to sign a contract extension with New Jersey, the team with the best trade assets to land him. And that source does not believe Anthony can be convinced to sign such an extension with New Jersey if the Nuggets were to agree to deal him there by the Feb. 24 trade deadline.

Like I previously stated, he isn't going to Jersey this season. At worst, he accepts his player option then go to Brooklyn in 2 years. He isn't going there by trade. If he isn't a Knick by the deadline and if he doesn't extend with the Nuggets, he's coming to us in the offseason or when the opportunity presents itself. Its no need to start worrying about Carmelo.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=a ... alks122110

The Denver Nuggets and New Jersey Nets are advancing on another complicated multiteam trade proposal that would likely fit Carmelo Anthony’s(notes) criteria for signing a contract extension with the Nets, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Anthony is inclined to accept a trade and contract extension with New Jersey over his preferred choice of New York only if the Nets are able to bring back a package of significant talent with him, league sources involved in the talks said on Monday.

So far, there are trade scenarios that include a combination of Anthony’s Denver teammates – including forward Al Harrington(notes) – and other league players coming to the Nets.

So that seems to be NJ's strategy now. Bring back other talent as well, which will hopefully convince Melo.

No deal is imminent, but sources involved in the talks believe that early January is a realistic target. The New York Knicks are still Anthony’s preferred destination, but so far there are no trade packages involving the Knicks that interest Denver. Knicks GM Donnie Walsh and Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri have been talking more in the past couple weeks, but sources said Denver officials still prefer the Nets’ multiple picks and Favors.

Nuggets president Josh Kroenke and Ujiri haven’t spoken in two weeks with Anthony about the approval process on a trade, a source said, but they’ve proceeded with an understanding that fattening a package for the Nets will go a long way toward getting him to sign an extension. When the times comes, the Nets are planning to have owner Mikhail Prokhorov personally sell Anthony on the Nets’ future in Brooklyn beyond 2012.

There are no teams involved in the pursuit of Anthony, including the Knicks, who believe Anthony is willing to pass on a contract extension before the trade deadline. With the owners determined to make sharp cuts into player salaries with a new collective bargaining agreement, Anthony’s willingness to accept a compromise sign-and-trade to get his three-year, $64 million extension illustrates his reluctance to enter free agency under a more restrictive salary structure.

So it seems I was right. The current consensus is that Melo will sign that extension no matter what, and with NJ's better package, it seems like NJ might actually be a realistic destination for Melo.

He wants that bread.
I can't blame him.
New Jersey is NOT New York.
He should ask Kenyon what it's like playing second
(when they were going to the Finals and we were doormats;
and somehow we still were a hotter ticket) to the primetime Knicks.
I'll be glad when the situation is resolved either way
and Walsh can go on to shaping the roster better around Amare.
But again, this isn't over 'til the press conference.
He's been traded to NJ twice already and I ain't see
a press conference or nothin'!
Either you with me or against me. Go Knicks!!!

"Apres Melo le deluge" - After Melo, the flood.

Either way, no matter where he goes (it won't be the Nets), I can't wait for the string of moves Donnie will pull to fix the flaws with the roster. I think we have no less than 3 moves, Melo included, that are on ice right now.

Yeah we should start a fun thread about what type of Plan B Walsh has in place because it looks more and more like Denver is not gonna deal him to NY under any circumstances.

I dont see how Denver doesnt use NJ and NY. We have young pieces NJ needs. Chandler is better than anybody on that roster not named Lopez. Get another young big in Randolph who will put butts in seats and a expiring deal in Curry in the mix. TD for good measure and NJ is much better than they were. I cant see how it doesnt work somehow for both teams.

Are you saying you want to do a 3-team deal with the Nets? I'm sure pretty sure they won't help us. lol

like NJ is gonna help NY get Melo. Get real, man.

I think if Melo is traded Walsh should get us an inside presence ASAP. There should be other elite scorers available so we shouldn't hang our heads (although a Melo/Stat duo would have been huge).

This is from Wojina who has more than made up a thing or two in this Melo drama. And even he said way down that nothing is eminent (despite making it sound like it's about to happen).

My guess is that a deal gets done in next week or two - for better or for worse.

So do we worry now with that idiot Woj coming out with the story of Melo agreeing to a sign and trade to the Nets????

IF it was someone else maybe...but it's been clear that Wojina has had an agenda and has made things up before about this...so not as much.

Seems like each time these threads reach 75+ pages the media forces us to a new "Camelo" thread.

"[Camelo Thread] - Update: It's not looking so good! Part 6" we welcome you :nonono:
