Re: Robert Randolph: Take back his EMMY!!! Cursed the Knicks
I think James Dolan, Isiah Thomas, and Robert Randolph are trapped in a vicious cyclical love triangle.

2024 & 2025 Bubble Champions (Repeat)
1: Thompson | Nembhard | Smart
2: White | Wallace | Clark
3: Dort | Sharpe | Rupert
4: Wembanyama | Green | Bol
5: Gobert | Drummond | Mamukelashvili

Yeah, ... give back the awards? A curse? Dude is one of us having a good time. I do agree that the song stinks though. Almost embarrassing when I have non knick fan company. Its one of those wave songs that only a room full of suit and ties that cant dance jam to.

Never underestimate the strength of knowledge.
Bring back the physical game and send the softies home.

THIS.. I have gone through p90x a few times.. I never was a big pushup guy, but after p90x, I can knock out 20-30 push ups easily ... rest , do something else and come back and Knock out another 20-30...
Have you done the nutrition programm? I am starting P90X tomorrow and I was shocked how expensive the recommended ingredients are. Don't you think?

Hey if anyone wants to debate a conservative (it looks like I'm the only one here) on the philosophy of government I'm definitely willing.
I promise I won't use any empty rhetoric/buzz word bs and I'll try to keep it civil. If anyone wants intellectual arguments for conservatism (which may seem difficult in this day and age) they should look up Edmund Burke's "Reflections on the Revolution in France" (still relevent today), Hayek's Road to Serfdom" (even more relevent now a days) and Russel Kirk's "The Conservative Mind". They all describe the branch of conservatism I ascribe to which is pretty distinct from the tea baggers of today in several ways so you won't have to worry about me saying "Private property is a god given right" and then saying "nannanananana I can't hear you nannananaa I can't hear you" when you say otherwise.

Burke was responding to a specific historic event (the French Revolution) that he felt had torn away the "decent drapery of life", ie rules, regulations, pomp and circumstance, institutions, etc. This was a classical conservatism that was anti-revolution in nature. Burke saw people dying left and right for the revolution and he responded in kind.
You are right, Burke's conservatism has little (if anything) in common with the Tea Party or NeoCons that dominate conservatism today.
I don't necessarily agree with Burke's reasoning, as Thomas Paine famously said, "Burke pities the plumage but forgets the dying bird". By that he meant Burke was concerned about the loss of institutions and order but forgot that the end (saving France from itself) justified the means.
More relevant perhaps to today's situation in American politics is what Madison wrote in the Federalist Papers about faction. In perhaps the most prescient of his insights:
He defines a faction as "a number of citizens, whether amounting to a minority or majority of the whole, who are united and actuated by some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adverse to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate interests of the community." He identifies the most serious source of faction to be the diversity of opinion in political life which leads to dispute over fundamental issues such as what regime or religion should be preferred.
I could go on and on about this and he also famously said, "liberty is to faction what air is to fire". Basically if you make everyone "equal" before the law you're going to have a disparate number of outcomes in opportunity and wealth accumulation. Note that he was writing at the dawn of capitalism as well. If anything, he underestimated capitalism's effect on wealth distribution and faction.
Man, you got me ready to go back to grad school. Haven't essayed on American political thought in a few years since undergrad.
To sum it up, I wish the Tea Partiers would read Burke, Madison, Paine, Hamilton, Locke, Rawls, Arendt, etc before they talk about the "what the founders wanted".
You a Poli Sci person?

Re: [Official NYK Board Community Thread] NSFW (Part 2)
Heres a fun fact. Robert Randolph is on Rolling Stone's list for top 100 Guitarists of All Time, across all genres. Sitting at #97 for his pedal steel swag. That is pretty damn good for a dude whos only been making music for 10 years and being kinda unknown.
I dont like "Get There" but some of his other songs are good. Funky. Hes had a couple 4.5/5 star albums. Boy can whale on the guitar. Dont hate on a real musician.
