But the idea that the Jazz asked for Barrett and Robinson tells you that the club holds some Knick players -- including those two -- in high regard.

SNY reported on Wednesday afternoon that people in touch with the Knicks in the days prior said the club had no interest in trading Barrett in any deal.

alright so we have a difference of opinion here. we're gonna grab what the ~18-20th pick in the draft assuming no trade every year? you're willing to take the 1% chance and draft the freakiest athlete that only started played basketball 5 years before the draft and pray he becomes giannis, live with the other 99% of times that freakiest athlete that doesn't know how to play basketball failed. i'll forego that for what in my eyes is a more watchable and better basketball product and a chance with a lot of injury luck to do something

Yes.

Jokic - 41st pick
Giannis - 15th pick
Kawhi - 15th pick
Butler - 30th pick
Mitchell - 13th pick
Booker - 13th pick
Gobert - 27th pick
Pascal - 27th pick
FVV - undrafted
Bam - 14th pick
Mikal Bridges - 10th pick
SGA - 11th pick
Vucevic - 16th pick
Collins - 19th pick
Sabonis - 11th pick
Bane - 30th pick
Lavine - 13th

So yes, I'd rather we just take our chances building, and using the draft, like all these teams did to get core players or stars. After all, we do have the guy who made the Jazz draft Mitchell 13th, why not actually use his expertise with our cache of picks.

If we're not going to win the title with Mitchell, why throw away all the picks when we can just build all the same.

All those players and none of them are Knicks.

Also, the Knicks will still have 1st round picks (the whole purpose of the Stephein Rule, unlike 15+ years ago) & we have a bunch of 2nd round picks still, during a time where it’ll be “double drafts” and high school kids coming out. Those 2nds are valuable.

You’re listing some late round guys also, as if picks can’t just be purchased. Regardless of this trade happening, Knicks have to still be able to get lucky and spot high end talent.

I don't feel like looking, but I wonder if we could have drafted almost every one of these players. So sad.

Yes, but Woj never reported that a deal was close. Shams made it seem like the teams were close and were going back and forth.

Woj just said nothing was serious and it was just Utah listening to offers and gauging the Knicks interest.

Shams never said it was close. He said they started discussions the Knicks are the focus.

We need to have Spida stop being a good guy and demand a trade to the Knicks, that then removes any leverage Danny thinks he has and we should be able to get this deal done with just Grimes, Fournier, maybe Cam, and Three NYK picks (2 unprotected) and 2 others

you either take a sensible deal or you walk - if you need to in-fight for 400+ pages while killing the time in between by all means. my only request is you try to be funny about it. it's boring to get spitting pissed on the internet but i don't need to tell anyone that

anyway, cya in part 4 of this knicks fantasy epic - the quest for the tiny homegrown savior

Poor way to benchmark this.

All those players traded at the time had competing offers.

Who is competing with the Knicks here?

he's still under contract for 4 years though. That doesn't remove much leverage

Ballad of this thread:

Reading it is set for a three hour tour,
a three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough,
the tiny ship was tossed.
If not for the courage of the fearless crew going after Donovan Mitchell
the Minnow would be lost.
The Minnow would be lost.

So why are the Nets trading KD? You don’t want an unhappy star especially going through a rebuild. If he said he wants NY it’ll remove some leverage, and that’s all we need. We need Danny to stop smoking crack rock and thinking every team is going to get bent over like he did to Minnie.

Basketball trades aren't like real life inflation lol. These historic hauls will eventually come to a stop because there actually is a limited supply of first round picks available. What we saw in recent years was a record number of players wanting out of their teams to buddy up with another player.

The competitive offers are now coming to a stop. 1-2 years ago, Brooklyn Nets have no issue getting 5 first round picks for a 32 year old Kevin Durant. Now it's looking like they are going to hold onto him because the offers have been weak.

Hold the line, Leon!!
