For the record I dislike Wale with a passion. I think he is twinkie filling and is always crying that he is not bigger than he should be. Ironically a song he took shots at Meek is my favorite song from him.

Re: Official Rap/Hip Hop Thread IV
Watched this video (only one true hip hop song in it) and thought, man...it'd be great for this to occur with rap music. These are artists who make music for well beyond the paper and we should be treating rap music with the same dignity. Unfortunately, it seems like that's getting further and further away from mainstream music in all genres, but you can see in this video the passion that will carry itself into different genres. The torch might not always burn bright, but the fire won't go out any time soon.

That rant you just had on Drake using his upbringing to bash him is asinine.
You don't get to decide what a struggle is. Everyone is dealt different cards. My bottom may be different from Drake's or Meeks or his or hers or yours and theirs but it's still MY BOTTOM. Is Drake supposed to apologize that his family hustled to live better than where they started? He can't say he came from the bottom to where he is now without people complaining that his bottom wasn't bad enough in their eyes?
Put the shoe on the other foot. You're complaining about the ghetto here in the USA but you do know that ghetto is heaven for people coming from impoverished COUNTRIES? People sleeping on dirt floors with nothing to eat living in ACTUAL war zones where homes get bombed and little kids are soldiers performing suicide bombings is way worse than pissy hallways and crack wars.
Not cool brushing off your struggle, no?
No matter who we are we all must take this stance; there is ALWAYS someone doing worse than us. Count your blessings. Hate only keeps you from ascension. Karma is real. I don't care about bull **** struggles. Kim K can tell you about her struggles, that don't make them that serious. See the problem here is your defending weak ****. I won't say that a struggle aint a struggle, but lets be real here, not having food, electricity, no Job, Live in a high Crime/ Drug Area etc and making it from THAT...is much harder, than making it from the basement of a rich family, who ALREADY had success as an actor, which helped him raise his profile. I actually WATCHED Degrassi on sunday mornings on NYC public access channel, before the dude blew up, I thought it was a good show honestly.
Greenie stop trying to make your world like some real hardcore struggle...You did that **** before. Coming up in the suburbs, with what ever struggle that do exist there, is not like coming from a place with hardly any hope.
That dudes BOTTOM, would be the TOP of the GAME, for most of the people in Brooklyn. So NO. I don't respect it like that, And NEVER will. P Diddy Kids have struggle, what does that really mean? Rich Kids Problems?
P Diddy son can say he started from the bottom as well, what does that really mean?
Did Kim K start from the bottom before she sucked Ray J dick?
You better recognize all this **** aint the same. Like I told you BEFORE, saying coming from the "bottom" means POVERTY, you came from nothing. Is Drakes "nothing" the lack of not being Famous at one time ???.Its a term that has been around since before all of us was born...stop trying to remix it.
I took awhile to come back to this but let me start.
First: poverty and struggle are two different things. Know the difference and accept it.
The ignorance you are spewing about sh*t you don't know is astounding and I personally expect more from you because I know you're intelligent. What you're saying is weak.
I'm going to use where I'm from to shut your uninformed opinion down. Do you know what's actually happening out here on the Island? Do you know that there's both poverty and struggle out here?
Do you know there is in fact people on food stamps out here on the island? Foreclosures are at all time highs because people lost jobs and can't find a new one to even sustain. Boarded up houses out here left and right out here on the Island. The middle class is dying. Programs to try to entice people to buy homes out here are plentiful.
The problem is nobody can afford the damn mortgage or property taxes while paying the bills to keep a house running. Plenty of people lose lights out here. They can't afford oil to heat the house so they try to heat the house with diesel or if they can't do that they turn on the kitchen oven. They heat their water on the damn stove. Making 6 figures ain't sh*t out here when taxes hit, you have a 4k mortgage and 3k in basic fuqing bills per month. It used to be. Not anymore. Long Island right now is going through gentrification....for the rich or UPPER middle class(AKA a few mil in the bank). They want all the lower middle class families out. Lower Middle Class is considered poor around these parts because people are now living paycheck to paycheck....on what I guess most would consider a good paying job. Why do you think everyone is headed down south? Even the whites? Many people are being displaced. There is a damn struggle.
My ass grew up in CENTRAL ISLIP. Mofo's are insane over there. Up the street from the damn high school is a damn trap house. I grew up with Bloods in LONG ISLAND. Mofo's get murdered out here too. A little girl was sitting in her room watching TV and got killed by a stray bullet coming through the wall. A young dude walking up the street got gunned down in front of a elementary school. Everyday people get shot out here. Stop glamorizing it. It's not glamorous. Long Island consists of more than Dix Hills(right up the street from Wyandach) Montauk and the Hamptons. Most people don't live there. Kids going to school hungry is what's going on out here. The suburbs consists of way more than you think. Lack of jobs out here is real. Roll your ass down Straight Path and see if you don't get pulled up on.
These middle-class neighborhoods are getting flooded with people who either don't have sh*t, ain't use to sh*t or don't respect the sh*t others do have. How are they even living out here? These houses you see are actually rented out ROOMS. 15 people to a 3 bedroom house is what's going on out here. How do I know? All my neighbors have MULTIPLE tenets and they keep asking me if I own my whole house...
The only damn thing separating the city from the suburbs is building projects...and those are coming. They are building them right now. We have some grass and trees with the same damn knuckle heads fuqing up our communities with similar financial issues.
Stop acting like you know all struggle. You're on the outside looking in. You don't know what people are going through. Just because they come from what you want to consider the suburbs means nothing. Suburban life is not what it looks like on TV. Come out here and spend some actual time before you judge a struggle. I have respect for your reason that you're not a fan of him. I respect that you're well educated of hiphop and know his craft. I do disagree, but I understand that music can be subjective and don't want to manipulate the convo to Wale. The man has 100 different styles. He can spit gritty on Tats on My Arm, go gogo on Waledance, rap from the perspective of a Jesus Chain on Golden Salvation and get ignorant on No Hands. The same dude that penned 'Actin Up' wrote 'Matrimony.' That's sheer skill. I still say Wale hung with Jada on 600 Benz. But, it's hard to hate someone because they're not hard or they're upset that they didn't receive the accolades they deserve. Peep this. https://twitter.com/wale/status/710596014839758848

There is 3 young kids everyone needs to be aware of. Vince Staples, Mick Jenkins, and Isaiah Rashad. I really think these 3 are gonna dominate the culture soon and bypass guys like Cole.

Don't really mess with Mick Jenkins stuff like that. I tried but couldn't capture that essence.
Isaiah Rashad is my dude. That Cilvia Demo was great. "Ronnie Drake" is still fire to this day. Too smooth.
Vince is hit or miss to me. Summertime 06 was mostly hit. He sometimes acts like he's entitled to stuff instead of just demanding the respect. We'll see with him.

Vince Staples is one of the few new jacks who has tracks I can put on with the generation that taught me hip hop and they'll all acknowledge the tracks are legit. It's extra rare that any new guy gets unanimous love but tracks like Norf Norf get that easy.

Yeah, this is a good point. When I went to one of my homies crib, he was with his uncle whom was raised on the 80's/90's and really only rock with Kendrick and Vince in our generation. Summertime 06 is how you merge grit and progressive production. Hell Can Wait still stick in my rotation, honestly. Vince #2 or 3 in my top 5. His twitter also GOAT.

Never understood the Staples hype, really has no cadence on the mic. With that being said he really has a committed fan base so you can't take that away from him. He got lyrics, but his flow just misses me. Bishop Nehru is the guy that's still underrated to me... some how. We disagree on alot. THERE ARE SOME point I DO Agree with you here. Like I said. I can tell you think, I think that the hoods in L.i are the burbs...News flash sis.. I DONT. Just because you have wyndnace hemsted, Roosevelt, in L.I don't mean they in the suburbs. I don't think you understand what I am saying fully. Struggle is Struggle, true indeed, but WHATS going on out there OUTSIDE OF THE HOODS.....Its no where as bad as **** that is happening in Places like Brownsville Brooklyn, Chiraq etc. What you explained is what blacks been going through decades. Unless its CERTAIN parts of L.I, most of what you speak of means nada to me. There is no where in my community where I can enjoy life the way people do, in L.I. outside of the hoods. It blew my min dhow reckless people are out there in the nice parts...they leave they car doors open when they go to the store
Listen, its all good though we DONT have to agree on every point being made. I just know the envioremnt i Live in, is much DIFFERENT than most of the people here...and it has been for the most of my life...does this discount your experience? NO not all, thats not my point in anything Im saying. Like you said I am smarter than that..but I know mines and many people that live in places like me is/was DIFFERENT, much DIFFERENT. I don't care for struggles of not being famous or having luxuries of life, etc. Thats not a struggle to me. Thats what started this. There is nothing I can accept about him truly starting from a bottom. I wish you will just accept that.
This is BROWNSVILLE BROOKLYN. In Brownsville people don't ask what part you from, they ask WHAT PROJECT are you from. Its that many of them on top of each other, and everyone see each other as DIFFERENT. Dudes grow up not being able to CROSS the street cause its drama, cause different set of projects is on the other side, and you not welcome like that. You can't even Cross the street with out drama.

I leave you with this as my my period, to this whole convo about "struggle". Listen to it and absorb it. There is a reason why Hip Hop was NOT born in the suburbs. The struggle there is not the struggle in the "ghetto" or the struggle of being black in America.

Listen I never said Wale can't rhyme, but the dude Just has a Lameness to me I can't shake. I personally won't ever say that he can't spit. I just don't care for when he DOES spit. I don't know why.

He's not just screaming but he does it all in one breath.

Wale's greatness is in past tense to me. Since signing to MMG I can count his good songs on my fingers and toes but prior to signing I was the closest thing you'd meet to a Wale Stan. Idk I feel like he jumped way out of his lane to be taken more seriously and it's fallen flat for me. Still he's the highest selling artist on MMG so he's doing something right.

I love Mick but I wouldn't say he's going to dominate anything. Rashad is extremely mediocre IMO. Ronnie Drake is his only song i keep in rotation. He's not skilled enough for me to listen to him for bars and not unique enough to blow up. I'd definitely say I don't see him surpassing Cole. I didn't like Close early like that but I could point to multiple features where he killed at least. I've never rewinded a Isaiah Rashad song. I'll get to Vince later because to me he's the most underrated in the game right now.
Manhattan Project wrote:Never understood the Staples hype, really has no cadence on the mic. With that being said he really has a committed fan base so you can't take that away from him. He got lyrics, but his flow just misses me. Bishop Nehru is the guy that's still underrated to me... some how. Not even 20 yet and has already worked with Doom/9th Wonder and signed to Mass Appeal which does indeed have some dope cats.

Love Bishy but he's still young and very inconsistent. You mentioned his project with DOOM but didn't mention it's probably DOOM's worst collaboration album.
Vince to me has it all. His voice is sleepy but you can't tell me he doesn't flow. He's similar to Nas in that he paints the most basic picture in his rhymes and it still sounds deep. It's just natural to him (he actually only started rapping because Earl Sweat and a bunch of other dudes kept telling him to do it because when he did rap he was so good). Songs like Baron Davis off his first tape are just so great to me:

I'd say he's like Nas where his flow really makes his songs. I've put plenty of people that didn't really like him on because most people play songs like Norf Norf when trying to put him on and personally I feel that song's decent but not good enough to put people on to him. His real gems are songs like Screen Door or my personal favorite of his - Trunk Rattle:

I understand it's not for everyone but he's one of those guys (Danny Brown is another one) where the songs people tell you to check out are rarely his best ones.

If y'all have heard these songs before my bad but if you've only heard **** like Norf Norf and Senorita I don't blame you for never taking a second look at his music.

Also I think Bishop and Joey have dropped alot, Joey not as much as Bishop. Joey can still give you something hard. Bishop recent mixtape he dropped like a week ago was kinda ass to me. I basically was skipping most of it. Bishop is becoming bland, I am not even sure he signed to Mass Appeal anymore. He does not seem to be apart of the roster anymore.

He's inconsistent man I see exactly what you mean. Still he's only 22 so I expect him to keep growing. Have you listened to Screen Door (I think it was posted earlier in the conversation) or have you ever heard Progressive 2/Oh You Scared? Those are some other songs he has that are 10/10 to me (knowing what I know about what you listen to you'd probably like Oh You Scared).

Agreed. With them falling a little I think Dillion Cooper can get his little fame and blow up soon.

I Love Isaiah Rashad. He has a unique sound. I think hes way ahead of where Kendrick was at after his first big project (overly Dedicated). Just wish he would drop something new. been what 2 1/2 years now? I still listen to Cilvia demo all the time.
