While anything is possible, I think everything that was sent out for OG, Mikal, and KAT messed up the Knicks' positioning to get a superstar.

RJ, Julius (expiring contract), Donte, Deuce, the 6 thousand Mikal 1st rounders and the Pistons 2nd rounder would have been an intriguing offer for Giannis.

Before, the Knicks could outbid anyone besides OKC....now, our assets are looking depleted.

If Bucks are ready to rebuild, what could we offer?

Besides offering a young cheap talent in Deuce, we now have no picks to offer but we have many expensive long-term vet contracts.

I remember how people were saying that Giannis and Dame were the best duo in the east...hm, I guess this means it's more than two players needed to win in the NBA...whodathunkit

Knicks trading the huge package of whatever it would take to get Giannis feels like an Isiah starphuck move, at least with KAT the core was still intact but I don't see that as remotely possible after something like that.
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.

I too feel like we don’t have much assets to give up anymore for a superstar since we went all in on KAT and mikal, but I thought it was really interesting that rival teams think we’re using KAT for a potential Giannis offer. Probably a slim chance of happening, but seeing how Leon been moving I wouldn’t be surprised if that was his motive all along. We’ve been linked to Giannis for a while. It looks like the only true untouchable player on this roster is Brunson.

1. Giannis doesn't have a no-trade clause
2. We have ZERO assets to get him

Yep.

Leon depleted the warchest. This is what we have for now unless there's a lateral move or trades for bench pieces.

The team we have now is better and more balanced than the one we'd have if we traded for Giannis. The Bucks are where they are right now because they thought a bigger name and more talented player would get them further, and in the new NBA that is not the case. You need balance, we would not have it just the same as the Suns/Bucks aren't viewed as a real contender despite getting talent.

We've had years and years of teams failing by trying to go that route, it doesn't work anymore. The Bridges trade didn't require any real players going out, and the KAT trade was really a 1 for 1, which is 1 starter for 1 starter since Divo was already replaced.

The KAT trade didn't hurt our ability to trade for a superstar whatsoever.

I think everybody will agree that KAT has a higher resale value than Randle because of age, skill set and contract certainty. You're more likely to enter negotations for Giannis with KAT as the centerpiece of a deal than any combination of Randle, DiVincenzo and a pick that will never convey.

We lost our trove of assets (our draft capital) in the Mikal trade, in which we overpaid because Brooklyn are a crosstown rival organization. Previously we lost our young players in the OG trade. Those are the moves that hurt our ability to trade for the likes of Giannis. Not the KAT trade.

I don't think trading Giannis would be wise at this stage anyway, but that's up for debate. The above, not really imo.

Yeah, but also Mikal is awesome. He has resale value too.

If the Bucks wanted to blow it up there are teams that could have beaten us. If they want to retool with players, we have a great package. Hopefully our rookies show something as well. If you have good young talent, that's always a good piece. Especially if we keep making hay with our cheaper late picks.

I also agree with you and NoDope ( :o ) that as much as I like him, Giannis might not be the answer right now. Let's let what we have brew a minute.

The Spurs getting Giannis would be **** up and we'd have to fold the league and start over.

No no absolutely. Mikal's a hell of a player. I think it's also true that we overpaid for him. I don't think that's a personal judgement as much as understanding the reality of dealing with the Nets, with whom we hadn't done business with for decades (specifically because of the risk).

My point was if the Bucks don't want to rebuild and wish to stay competitive, then KAT's a more attractive asset than Randle.

I think we could put together a compelling "win-now" package, as you said. I have no doubts about that, in fact. I do think however we've reached a critical stage for depth, and any 2-for-1 move (likely the basic parameter of any trade for Giannis) would put us in the red as far as how thin the squad would be.

There's also the more subjective aspect of wanting to see this group play as well. There's no objectivity behind that, but I share the sentiment.

I get that statement as a fun reaction, because Holy isht the defense and dunking, but in Steph Curry's NBA, having your two best players unable to shoot threes is an immediately faulty foundation to build on.

Bucks should do all these things before trading Giannis: 1) Fire Doc 2) Fire GM 3) Trade Dame 4) Trade Lopez 5) Trade Middleton

Get some younger pieces in return and see if you could find better fits around Giannis for 1-2 seasons.

For sure. Unless/until Dadiet really establishes himself we're very susceptible to injury.

KAT makes more than Giannis. And the Bucks are over the second apron, so can't add players in the trade (from their point of view). So I don't see how they can do a trade where they end up with KAT. I guess KAT could go to a third team and the Bucks get some package of salaries adding up to less than Giannis's and picks.

An alternative would be to send OG to the Bucks, Mitch to a third team and have the third team some package of picks and salary.

They've been through several coaches now, I don't think there's really anything they can do to right the ship. They'll get Middleton back but he can't play defense anymore and their perimeter defense has been horrible with Dame as it is.

Not sure about that. The guy who broke the news with Shams about the trade said KAT has very little trade value around the league. For Randle, according to Windhorst Randle is on a very tradeable contract. Begley also named a couple of teams that wanted Randle as well. It’s not a given that the Bucks would want KAT’s massive contract over Randle’s and Donte along with the picks we used for Mikal.
