It's 150% for the Knicks.

Pretty sure the CBA allows you to trade DOWN any amount even if you're over the apron like GS. The purpose of the rule is to limit th amount of additional salary you're allowed to take on. Not sure it applies if you're shedding salary.

yeah it probably doesn't apply to the team shedding more salary if the team taking it on can get 150%.

Even than that would only total up to 9 million. And Why would the knicks trade 3 potential rotational pieces for David Lee?

I get it sheds calderon's 7 million the following year. But I think after hopefully a productive year it would be hard to move him as an expiring or at the deadline. Would rather keep Galloway and Early. I also think Calderon will be a contributor to this team. We need his shooting.

I'd prefer that to the David Lee option we had and the Nene rumor (even though they both seem impossible right now).

At this point and for the future I'd prefer Morris as a player. Can do more things imo.

Morris is a tough player who d's up and can stretch the floor on offense. Can guard the better player at the 3-4.
For 8mil a year hes a fantastic value. he wouldve gotten 12mil in this market easily.

Knicks can't.

Lee makes 15.5m, right? So we need 10.5M in outgoing salaries?

Calderon, Early, and Galloway puts us at about 10M right? And we have nothing else to trade right now?

We could add the Ledo contract also, but it's not worth it for Lee or Nene.

He's more of a 4/5 defender than a 3. Marcus is more of a 4/3. Still agree that he stretches the floor, can make plays with the ball, is a tough player, good slasher and good passer. Plays decent to good defense. Also agree he's a 12 million (probably closer to 14 million) per year player in this market. Too bad we have nothing to offer other than our draft picks this year (Kristaps and Grant).

even if you add Ledo it get you to 9.9 million. Still not enough to get you to 15.5 with 150% trade kicker.

Nor would the knicks want to do a 4 for 1 trade at the time. But either way not possible.

Think the KNicks ar going to have to renounce Ledo. With Grant and Porzingis' cap holds, not sure how the math works.

It would be, assuming the 150% rule is correct and the 10.5M mark for Galloway, Early, Calderon is correct.

supposedly he doesn't get along with hornacek. so maybe it wouldn't cost too much. i don't know. i wonder if phil would do it. the only guy who got a long deal was lopez. he seems to be maintaining flexibility for 2 summers from now.

KOQ got a long term deal. I also think he doesn't want to stunt Porzingis growth.

Ideally we would want to keep that $$$ available to either sign a lead guard like Conley next offseason or throw a huge deal at Beal (i don't you get him RFA)

Seems to be some confusion about exact contract numbers and Ledo's cap hold situation.

And I believe that once you hit 9.8M in outgoing salaries it is no longer 150%, but incoming has to be within 5M of outgoing.

As far as the 4 for 1 stuff.. ehhh that really depends on if Phil can lineup replacements. Ledo/Early might not sniff the rotation. And Galloway and Calderon are likely competing for a lot of the same minutes. It's really whether or not Phil can bring on a guard or two that he feels can replace the Galloway/Calderon spot.

Im happy with our signing but this quote from Lowe's piece today is precisely why I hate not getting team options on Williams' or Afflalo's deals:

"If you’re going to wager on uncertain upside, make sure you sign the guy for long enough that you actually reap the upside."

My point is they may have to decline their option and pay him the partial guarantee.

Knicks might end up with too many bigs...dont want to stifle pt with players making them unhappy. Phil doesnt seem the kind to trade assets at this point when the cupboard is nearly empty.

Just checked the number. It actually doesn't work. I assumed the 10.5M mark was for Calderon, Galloway and Early.

In a deal as such, he'd be included in the deal. Why would he be cut otherwise?

I'd really like McRoberts here. He's a good fit next to Melo and he's on a very cap-friendly contract going forward. Zach Lowe said today that him and Chalmers might be available for next to nothing because Arison wants to avoid the tax line. If we can somehow convince the Cavs to take Calderon for Haywood and then flip him to the Heat and maybe give them a 2nd rounder or 2 for Chalmers and McBob that would be a great ending to free agency.

Chalmers/Grant/Galloway
Afflalo/Grant/Galloway
Melo/Williams/Early
McBob/O'Quinn/Williams
Lopez/O'Quinn/Aldrich

Phoenix is going to want cap relief and/or picks. I'm sure other teams would be interested in Markieff and could offer better deals. His contract is a bargain deal right now so would be a plus asset. We are a bad match.
