I don't believe Donnie has plans A, B, and prolly even C, and Dolan will disregard all of that and drive Donnie away in the process?

we keep 2011 pic, 2014 pick, 2nd rounders, Fields, Douglas, and Mozgov.

*If* 'Melo told Dolan he's not waiting for free agency and wants his max, then you have no choice but to do this deal. You have to give to get and 'Melo is the piece that gets us closer.

So has Dolan hired Walsh only to render him useless at a time when his experience is needed most? Man I hope they ask for Fields and kill this deal.

Still, it will come down to Denver owner Stan Kroenke's decision to OK Knicks offer and give 'Melo what he wants: $65M and the Knicks.

I'd honestly prefer to take back Birdman or Harrington if it means we can forego the Felton/Billups swap.

In the end, the main reason they want to dump Billups for Felton is because of the extra money savings (and luxury tax savings) from adding more salary into the trade and exploiting the 125% rule.

I'm disappointed with Melo in all of this, if he had just been willing to stick it out he could've come here with a much better team in the offseason, even if we had had to renounce Chandler. Or he could've said he wasn't extending with the Nets so the Knicks didn't have to go nuts here.

That being said, superstars win championships in this league, and if this goes down we'll have two of them. For all of you bummed about losing Melo, I agree with you; he's my favorite player on the team and would've been perfect to keep because if the deal goes down we won't really have any great shooters. But what if Melo had gone to the Nets? We would've been stuck with Amare + the kids, having no chance to compete for a title for MAYBE another two years, at which point we'd have to pray D-Will or CP3 came here. We wouldn't be good enough to win anything, but we wouldn't be bad enough to get a high-enough lottery pick to be able to draft a superstar. With Melo and Amare, we're almost there now.

Yes because Denver will get next to nothing if Melo goes, they have to trade him. The most compensation they would get is 2 late 1st rounders. If he gets traded to the Nets, Melo will be stuck in Limbo with a team going no where.

So if they pass on this ... let Melo go to the Nets meeting and the he passes.

Then you godfather deal them because there is no other option at that point.

As much as Amar'e wants Melo in NY, he's completely against gutting the roster to get him, sources say. He knows it takes a balanced roster.

Wtf is this guy talking about? Amar'e was saying himself it doesn't matter if we gut our team because the two of them are good enough.

Asshola is right. They do want more from us which is where you gotta draw the line and walk away from the table.

this is where melo comes in. I have kept my mouth shut. the knicks increased there offer. it is fair enough. I am playing for the knicks

Melo ain't signing with the Nets. It's not gonna happen. He knows he's gonna be a Knick by the deadline, one way or another. Whether the trade includes Gallo or not. He's gonna shoot down that NJ meeting, and Denver will have no choice but to take what we offer.

I agree. It's time for Melo to actually flex his leverage.

NY Gets: 'Melo, Billups, Carter
Den Gets: Gallo, Chandler, Curry, Felton, 1st via Min, cap relief

hefty price... can't know for sure if we're overpaying or not simply because we don't know for sure if 'Melo was willing to go to FA. If he isn't, which I assume he's not, then from a pure talent perspective, we win the deal. We get our two superstars, but we give up a lot in the process.

Make that deal ASAP.

Follow that up by somehow finding another defensive big and backup PG and the Knicks are contenders THIS YEAR.

The Knicks can only offer what Miami is offering, if you were a defensive big would you play with 3 all-stars or 2?

Knicks already have two defensive bigs, and could potentially add Przybilla. Part of the reason why I'm sure AZ, Walker, Rautins and Mason jr aren't part of a larger deal to offer the Nuggests more cap relief. I'm certain if they added those contracts so as to take back a contract like Balkman's, the Nuggets would be more receptive to the latest offer.
