There's a bit of misinterpretation of what a NTC actually means. It doesn't mean a productive player can force a buyout or that management has to throw their hands up and bend to his wishes. It also doesn't mean they have to leave him alone going forward. It simply means he has the right to reject any agreed upon trades that involve his contract. He doesn't "deserve" anything outside that ability - nor does it give him any additional power.
It's analogous to a builder coming in to a rural area and buying up land for a development, and everyone sells except one owner. That owner is absolutely within his rights to keep his land and to stay. Good for him. But it doesn't mean he can halt the project, and he usually ends up cutting off his nose to spite his face. He can be as defiant as possible, making all the demands he wants to try and get things exactly the way he wants them, but he doesn't hold all the cards - just the ones involving his specific plot of land.
Understanding this is all business, there's no surprise (and no sympathy) when the home owner ends up like this:

I mean, good for him on some level, but I guarantee you he's a lot less well off and with a lot more unnecessary vitriol than his former neighbors who saw the writing on the wall and moved on despite not really wanting to leave.
