We also have Delon Wright's contract.

The Knicks waived Ryan's unguaranteed contract and converted him to a 2-way contract when they added Shamet in December I believe. They have a limited amount of room under the second apron where they were hard capped after aggregating salaries to complete the Mikal deal. I assume the date where they can fit a prorated vet min deal of a player of 2 years of experience or more is around March 1st.

Cutting fully-guaranteed contracts like Wright or Shamet would not open up more money under the cap. 10 day contracts count against the cap. I assume signing guys to 10 day contracts would simply push back the March 1st date another 10 days for the opportunity to sign someone to a vet min deal for the 15th roster spot which may not make sense if they have a specific guy they want/promised to add to the roster on March 1st and the longer they wait the less talent will be available.

Someone can correct me if i'm wrong.

That won’t be necessary :D

I've been begging us to bring him up and drop Dadiet down (he never plays, so what's the point). Okeke would give us the backup minutes we need at the 3-4. We'll see what Philly does with him. At least it gives me a reason to watch the local Sixers games. Looks like they're ready to tank.

The NBA isn't baseball, you can't just "send players down". Moreover, if you want to add players to the roster you have to have financial space to do so - which the Knicks only will have - for one vet min contract - from March 1st (and an open roster spot, which the Knicks do have).

The long and short of it is that the Knicks can't simply remove Dadiet from their roster and could not have already used Okeke or Warren.

fwiw, Dadiet has played 14 G-league games this year, averaging 31.6 minutes/game.

Couldn’t we waive Ryan and someone else to create space?

Whenever I see Ryan enter the game with 14 seconds left in the 4th quarter I think "That could be me."

You're not wrong. We have been telling Wingo this for months it seems. It must have slipped his mind.

Months? Really? That would be impossible since the season is only about 3 months in so far. But nice try Bluntstoned.

I still don’t understand the reason for bringing in Delon Wright vs clearing the space to sign a front court guy

The player has to have less than four years nba experience to be on a 2-way contact. Okeke is in his 5th season.

Can’t we just release Ryan and sign Chuma?

NO. Ryan is a 2-way. We do not make apron room by releasing him.

NO. Ryan is a 2-way. We do not make apron room by releasing him.

So what CAN we do?

What part of wait until March 1st to sign any vet minimum player doesn't register for you? We only have enough money under the apron after that date to sign anyone for any reason. Two way guys and rookies are the only players we can "bring up" or send down.

We cant sendo down rookies. Just waive them generating dead money.

You clearly didn't get the whole...have them play in G League as rookies idea. We can't shuffle players back and forth between the leagues unless they are on two way deals or rookies, that's bring up send down. Pay attention. There is a bigger discussion happening where Wingo doesn't understand how the G League and the cap works.

I think a team can send down any player to The G league. However It will not change the salary cap. The Hawks sent down Timmy after we trade him to them.

Jesus. The team is not sending anyone down to G League that isn't a rookie or on a two way deal. We aren't moving players back and forth that aren't under contract already. We can't just add and subtract players without going over the apron. Period. After February we can add ANY vet minimum salary to the team and stay under the apron. Until then no one is coming to the Knicks that isn't already here.
