Just take the 3 or whatever days it takes to wait for them to match or not and offer a 3 year deal to KJ McDaniels starting at the room exception already (turns out to be about 3 years and nearly $10 million which could be enough to dissuade the Rockets from signing him). Mario Chalmers and Chris Andersen are available for nothing, per several league sources, and the Heat have even put out Shabazz Napier feelers with an eye on carving out extra cap room next summer.

i know he's not a defensive beast, but what about luke babbitt. shot 51% from 3, at 2 attempts per game in 13 mpg. a better version of novak.

I like him, but not for the 2.8M. We really need someone who can break down a defense. That's the most important aspect missing (other than a legit starting forward).

i don't disagree with you, but look at what the hawks did with korver. if you have a known, 3-PT threat, and utilize him correctly (which novak was not, plus he isn't even half the player korver is), defenses will HAVE to cover him, opening up other options, especially in the triangle.
