Knicker23 wrote:Interesting idea, but the commissioner would penalize them in a heartbeat... On the surface it seems like you'd be able to say ''hey what can they do, we hired Lala at Fuse cause she's skilled and qualified for the job' .. but paying her millions as a relative to melo, it may as well erase the whole salary cap idea from the nba... any team would be able to find a brother sister mother cousin to pay millions to as a relative to the star player they want.... sign DW for 1 mill and pay his brother 50 mill to be a columnist on newsday haha

That's the thing, what if they paid her relative to market value? So let's say that type of TV personality makes $1-$2 million per year and they paid her that. Not an exorbitant, $20 million per year or something. Is it really going around the rules? If she wasn't Melo's wife, no one would bat an eye. Obviously, there is no paper work or anything. Sure it looks bad on the surface, like the whole Wade/Riley/Miami team up thing, but it isn't necessarily against the rules. It isn't like they are taking an accountant and giving them a TV show.

I wonder, also, how things like the Mike D'Antoni show factor into this. Granted, money for coaches isn't as tightly controlled as it for players but players do appear on the show. Mainly the rookies, obviously, they get paid. How does that get regulated? Is that considered under the table money? Is it part of the contract that they have to appear on TV for X amount of hours? -Jitpal

I'd pass. Don't want to give up Fields and I'd like to see what Moz can do now. Plus we'd be taking on Harrington's egregious contract.

I don't think anyone is trading for Chris Kaman. Houston goes screwed in that deal.

Thanks for the comments. Personally, I don't think Hill + a protected first (considering Walker is about equal to Lee) is a bad trade for Houston, depending on the extent of his injury. If he can revert to form, it's a steal. I can understand not wanting to do it from the Knicks side, though I personally would.

Also I doubt the Lakers would trade Pau for Carmelo, but if they're willing to include Bynum things could get interesting.

Closer we get to the trade deadline the more competition could start heating up.

So making up trades that have a snowball's chance in hell of happening is actually better for the Knicks, isn't it? You're grasping at straws. Carmelo is coming here if he doesn't sign an extension with Denver.

The Lakers will never give up Bynum. Again, why separate the twin towers part two? Now if you think Denver would trade him to LA for a package surrounded by Artest- good luck with that

Don't get upset. I'm trying to see what you guys think of the possibility of the Dallas trade I mentioned before and the idea that the Lakers are looking to improve their roster.

If we have real competition then we have to really consider what we are prepared to give up. I doubt Denver has resigned themselves to the concept that Melo is going to NY no matter what. They are going to be shopping hard.

Still think the Dallas trade is something to worry about.

Dallas out:
Beaubois
Haywood
Butler

Nuggets out:
Anthony
Harrington

I can't see why Dallas wouldn't do that trade. So if your Donnie Walsh you have to be ready to offer something better than Beaubois and Haywood.

Can't trade Kobe but the reality is he is getting old. So, would you rather build your post Kobe centric Lakers around Melo or Bynum?

The Lakers GM said they are looking to improve the roster. Anthony is the top player available so they have to be at least considering making an offer. It's also hard to imagine Melo no wanting to extend in LA.

I'd be so freaking pissed if the Lakers got Melo. They always get top free agents when they need to.

If you guys are asking Melo to take this big pay cut down to 14 mil shouldn't you guys request Amare re-does his contract and take the same paycut?

"Stephen A. Smith is returning to ESPN as a local radio host and ESPN.com columnist. Smith will host a pair of two-hour, weekday local radio shows – one airing on 1050 ESPN (WEPN-AM) in New York from 7-9 p.m. ET and another on 710 ESPN (KSPN-AM) in Los Angeles from 6-8 p.m. PT. Both shows will focus on local sports topics, with a concentration on the NBA on game nights (1050 ESPN is the flagship station for the Knicks and 710 ESPN for the Lakers). Smith will begin to contribute to both stations this week. Smith will also cover NBA All-Star events and The Finals on ESPN Radio. Additionally, Smith will be a featured ESPN.com columnist, writing regularly for ESPNLA.com and ESPNNY.com. "

I expect screamin' Stephen to tell Donnie to go out and do anything to get Melo. Unfortunately I see Melo staying in Denver till season's end.

Return to New York Knicks
