Didnt Boozer do something like this several yrs ago?

Agreed to sign with Cavs, but then decided to change his mind at the last minute and signed with Utah instead.

Wes Matthews has to be pissed, since he reportedly walked away from the Kings' offer because he wanted to join DJ in Dallas.

Yep. Spineless.

No just unsure its a pretty big decision man

Then take the time to decide. Don't decide, make an agreement, then change your mind a few days later.

you mean red auerbach?

holzman was the knicks' legendary coach of the time.

Gregg Popovich is the present day Red Auerbach.

What he did was even slimier. He agreed to sign an extension with the Cavs (for 6 years 40million or so), if the Cavs declined their team option on him. The Cavs declined the option, made him a RFA, but he signed an offer sheet worth 70 million over 6 years with the Jazz and they couldn't/didn't wanna match that.

By compensation, what exactly are you referring to? Draft picks? Players? Cash? All of the above?

Any and or all.

I'd have to think that through. So the league says "Pay this fine or penalty to the Mavs" and that's it AFTER they get DJ. Maybe. It could get into issues of coercing DJ to Dallas, if it's not AFTER. Essentially you are back in the same place -- are you coercing a player to sign a contract? If not, then it could work.

Also not sure how he could find them guilty of tampering. Jordan is a free agent still.

But one thing about the NBA and the CBA -- they can pretty much rule by fiat as long as it doesn't cross red lines. However, they're going to be very careful about setting precedents.

My guess would be they do nothing or maybe some type of fine/penalty. Most importantly, I think they would consider changing the way the moratorium works if this became a REGULAR thing. Then it's a big problem.

Exactly. Guys like LeBron and Melo took their time with their decisions, but they stuck with their choices.

pretty sure this has happened before. can't remember who though.

edit - also, until someone signs a contract they're a free agent. they can't penalize anyone. an agreement to sign is not binding.

"detrimental reliance"

None of that will apply. The CBA is all that matters. I don't think the CBA has any room for that here, though I suppose the commissioner could just step in and rule by fiat.

That seems like it COULD happen but it's tough. Basically sets a very bizarre precedent where a handshake then FORCES you to sign a contract. Silver is going to force Jordan to sign a contract? I know this might sound crazy to you but that gets into issues of indentured servitude or the like which is not allowed under ANY CBA or other contract-based system lol.

Silver could suspend Jordan or block him from signing with the Clippers, as a way of forcing him to honor his commitment. I wouldn't be that shocked. Yet it does open up a huge can of worms. You can't force someone to work at a specific job or to sign a contract that he or she doesn't want to sign anymore ... as a rule of thumb.

I just read through the provisions of the CBA. I believe you're right. Jordan can change his mind.

And he did it to one of the nicest owners in NBA history who devoted his life and raised over half a billion to find blindness Gordon Gund (who himself is blind). Gund's fault was he wanted to trust Boozer and his camp. Gund was even classy after it happened trying to deflate any blame from his staff and took it all on himself. His classy response to the Cavalier fanbase after Boozer skipped was a stark contrast to the Dan Gilbert's (current owner of the Cavs) tirade when Lebron James left the first time and it's not hard to argue that Boozer screwed Gund a whole lot more than Lebron did.

Even more interesting thing that could occur here is if Wes matthews renegs on his agreement if Dj renegs on his.

DeAndre is type messed up for even agreeing to let Doc and company have 1 last hail mary meeting.

He shouldve declined the meeting if he was serious about going to the Mavs.
