Yes they can if Devin Harris and Favors and Morrow and Petro are off the books...all rumored to be traded in a Melo deal

you realize that rip's contract lasts until 12-13' right? @ 12.5mil

melo 19.5 + rip 12.5 + lopez 9-12 + farmar 4.2 + outlaw 7 = 52mil best case scenario

Rip's contract is not full guaranteed in 2012-2013. I believe only 25-40% of it is. He'll probably be bought out by that time. Cap will probably be at least $60mil by then. Yes they can sign CP3 and Lopez.

Maybe Denver is just going to keep Melo. I don't buy that he's THAT worried about money/extension. If he was Michael Vick and he had 1 endoresment company, then he should be worried.

David Stern would reduce the value of the franchise by millions and millions if he dealt Paul, he isn't that stupid.

By the way guys. It should be noted that--- isn't this a lot better chasing Melo but being a GOOD team with sallary cap room, as opposed to despertley chasing Lebron with all the uncertanties. We are in a good position, if we don't get Melo, it isn't the end of the world.

i agree and the thing that makes me not even care that he might go to the nets is that they still wont be any good. its not like melo is going to a team and theyre gonna be a juggernaut, they're gonna be an avg team at best who has to make up a boatload of games to eve get the 8th spot.

that being said, i still dont he'll be a net

Fields is great but Knicks could use another SG off the bench, of that there is no doubt.

Rip would give Knicks great vet, who has won a chip, who comes in and provides non stop movement and good shooting, plus decent handle for SG, thereby possibley eliminating backup PG needs.

And who better to learn movement and shooting for whoever is left of Feilds\Gallo\Chandler than from Rip?

rip does not eliminate the need for a backup point

nobody wants rip (except the nets apparently), hes a bench player on a bad team right now

The Knicks shouldn't even try to get Melo.

Seiously, Amare+Melo is not a good combo. Melo will take touches away from area and likes to score in areas Amare likes to play as well.

Besides you are already set at all positions except center. There is no need to add Melo really. Felton, Fields, Chandler and Amare thats 4 starters right there better get a center because you won't win a thing with gimmick small ball lineups in the long run.

are we trying to be competitive for the next 4 years or win a championship?

the team right now, even with a center added is not a championship caliber team. you win a championship with 2+stars. we have one.

Wrong. Rip's contract is $9M guaranteed in 12-13.

quick question on the Hamilton part of the deal. How exactly do buyouts work? Can a team buy out any player or does it only work when the players salary is partially guarunteed?

said it before a thousand times and saying it again. he's not going to sacrifice 2+ seasons of his prime, to sit in Newark with a god awful team, when he could go to New York City now, today, and play with a far better team, an MVP and his friend Amar'e. it aint happening.

"Who wouldn't want to play in New York?" Anthony said. "I told you that last year. I think that's how all this stuff started, by me making that comment. New York is playing well right now. I don't think they're looking at me, they don't want me to come in here and mess what they have up. That's what I've read."

That was the most interesting part to me. Why is Melo saying that he doesn't think New York is trying to get him?
