This could be a ruse to get Morey to revise the offer sheet again, after all. As many have pointed out, singing Lin doesn't affect the cap, and Felts is here via S&T (nice move, BTW, Grunnie).

How this shakes out depends upon how scared Morey is of that 3rd year. If he comes back with an offer sheet that's revised to shave a million off the 3rd year, it could still get done.

And all the Lin fans will have to swallow their anger, just like JLin will. Business is business.

My personal opinion is you just don't let a young, immensely popular player like this just walk without any compensation. This kid just fell out of the sky, a gift from the basketball gods. If you match, he can't be traded until Dec. 15. Can't deal him to Houston until next summer. But these will be a market for him regardless. Just my opinion, but letting him walk for nothing is hard for me to understand.

Exactly my thoughts. I am ok if they don't think he is a long term solution. But after we are giving away picks like nothing, we should be smart and keep him as an asset and trade him for something that will help the team. The Suns didnt want to send Nash to the Lakers but they understood its better to get those picks than nothing and made the deal for the sake of the franchise. We need to do the same.

This is rational thinking. And considering how our offseason has gone so far, I'd be shocked if we made such an odd decision in not matching.

Lin is not worth 30 Million.

Considering how much money Lin made and will make the Knicks, yes he is.

I'm going with the theory that if we don't match its because the docs know something's about his knee. I think the typical knee jerk reactions going on before we know what is happening with Knicks management and their decision. Christ I like Lin but he hasn't proved he is a franchise player (exciting, break through and feel good) but people already annointing him the saviour of our season after knee surgery don't get it.
We already have some injury risks Am are an expensive one do we need another one?

I haven't really been following this whole Lin story to much, but from what I know, here's my two cents:

I DO NOT think Lin is worth the contract offer Houston signed him to. He's a good basketball player, but he's not a $30 million player. Plain and simple. My only concern is the whole cap space situation we would face if we sign him. Don't know the figures, but 3 years from now we will be in cap space hell (not sure if I'm correct, please correct me if I'm wrong).

When it comes to Felton, he is definitely not my first choice as a PG for this team, but I won't be mad if he ends up being our guy instead of Lin. He had a great stint here in NY. Yes he chucked, but this was under D'Antoni where he could do whatever the hell he wanted. A lot of people here don't believe players could change when they are on a team with championship hopes and a new style, I do. I think Felton can change his ways if he comes here. My main concern though is his weight. I really hope he can keep that down.

People who say Lin isn't worth the money don't understand where money comes from in the NBA. It isn't about what you do on the floor, it is about selling tv deals, merchandise and tickets. Lin does all of these better than anyone in this price range.

If Dolan doesn't match it will be a terrible business decision. Felton looked about as good as Baron Davis last year - I'm not sure why anyone would want him starting for our team. Also - if Dolan is upset at Lin then his anger is misplaced. He should be upset at Houston who came to a verbal agreement and then showed up with a different written one.

All I will say is Knicks fans aren't that dumb & by the time he comes back as a Rocket everybody will have put two & two together.

-Sitting out in the playoffs when there was a chance he could've come back
-Previously treating him like a written prophecy
-Not playing on the USA select team
-Not playing in the Summer League
-Going for a second offer with the Rockets & only showing the Knicks the first one

This is why I say it makes no b'ball or business sense not to match him. It's asinine. It's not rational.

If you really think Lin's unloyal to the Knicks, think about it for 1 second, where's the Knicks loyalty towards Lin when they made the full effort to pursue Nash and made zero initial offer to Lin? Even Chicago put an initial offer 24m/4 years to Asik on the table before he found a bigger offer with Houston but we made zero effort to do that and were busy chasing another PG to replace Lin. Add the rumor about using Lin as a package for CP3 (though pure rumor). Loyalty can go both ways and really rarely exist in a business sports world.

Last I checked Nash without a doubt was better than Lin and would greatly help us as a contender, last I checked Lin was about two days away from being cut, last I checked Lin got injured halfway through playing in the season (yes I know fatigue played a factor). Let's not act like Lin is a all-star that deserves his full & undivided attention. And last I checked we ALLOWED Lin to test out his own free-agent market value so he could get MORE MONEY. As far as that CP3 rumor sh*t goes if you believe that is serious then I got a house to sell you in Idaho.

But we trade guys and waive guys all the time, no? Where is the organization towards players in those situation? Why shouldn't guys look out for themselves instead of being loyal to a particular club when that club is prepared to ship you out if given the right chance?

What did Jared's loyalty towards Knicks do for him? Got traded.

I feel as though I'm becoming increasingly enraged at Lin not playing in the playoffs. Somebody talk me out of it.

The only thing that really bothers me about it was that it forced Baron to play injured for more minutes and he ended up horrifically blowing out his knee--can't get that image out of my mind.

Lin's contract doesn't really affect the cap situation. It's all about the luxury tax.

Unlike other situations of fan backlash, this backlash is happening BEFORE a decision is made. Which is why I would be shocked if the Knicks didn't match Lin's offer by Tuesday. The front office will know just how bad the fans want Lin back before they say Yes or No.
